We may be on the Security Council but every vote is vetoed by the Rusians or Chinese. The writing is on the wall for the talks in January already, even the French have given up.

Maybe we should keep our noses out and leave Assad to it, I don't understand why Cameron wants to align us with the rebels anyway, when they are the very people our own troops are trying to avoid getting killed by in Afghanistan

News reports say we have contributed £50 million in aid. That is a fair whack of taxpayer's money in my book. Nobody likes it when we go in with military force, (and maybe it's time we stopped being a global policeman). And when we dip into our pocket it's never enough.
Is Iraq or Afghanistan a better place for our military intervention? Plenty of media strories say not. Enough of our blood has been spilt fighting other peoples' wars.
As for financial support, look at the millions and millions of pounds we have sent to impoverished regions of Africa over the last 50 years. Is the problem of starving children fixed? No.
You know what the hard lesson to be learnt from this is?
It's never been enough, and it's never ever going to be enough.
I'm not saying I begrudge overseas aid, nor that we should stop sending it, but there has to be a limit.

I am not a selfish person. I give to charity, to genuine homeless and needy people I come across. Have been known to by food for homeless people instead of giving money but I can say with no shame or embarrassment that I will not be giving a penny to Syria!

If I knew every penny of what I gave would be going to the 100s of thousands who have fled the country in genuine fear for their lives, and are now huddled together in tent cities in the desert, I'd gladly donate a few quid. Sadly though, this is very unlikely to be the case (I doubt even a quarter of it would end up there), so I'll probably be sticking with what the UK govt have already paid on my behalf through my taxes.

Putting aside some valid comments about some aid not being used properly the fact remains that there are a lot of people who are freezing with no heat, power, clean water or food. Terrified to leave their homes, if they have a home left, and hoping against hope that someone will provide some basic food to keep them alive.
I was one of those who thought that we should not get involved in the conflict and even felt that the Russians might have been right to support the Assad regime as that was the lesser of two evils. Now the country is, I dread to think, beyond redemption.
I have no answers except to hope and perhaps send some money to a decent charity.
My condolences to the family of that orthopaedic surgeon who ried to help. I would be too cowardly to do what he tried.
What a f,ucking nightmare.

Hence why I give my money to big cat charities!
