Default Cross fit ..

Been going the gym for a number of years without really seeing any gains.

I'm no body builder, it's all about my fitness and recently I started crossfit (8 weeks ago) and my fitness has come on in leaps and bounds.

I've spent some time reading up on it and the different view points. Some people say it's amazing, other believe it's a dangerous waste of time.

Wondering what you lot think about it?

I've done a couple of sessions and enjoy it, a lot more enjoyable than other circuits. If work calms down and I can start regular sessions I reckon they'll be spot-on

Heard many good things about it and I kind of do much of it anyway.

I'm fit and often cross - so I must qualify ;-)

Nothing to qualify for it's all about your own ability.

Been reading about the normal lifters who think CF is a load of crap, but then after 20 seconds they run out of steam

That was my problem, whilst I was doing lots of running and cycling all my gym time was weight training. I decided to go back to circuits and found myself hanging - I don't aspire to be Arnie but wanted a better level of general fitness. I now do 3 circuits a week, insanity, cross-fit and body-pump. All use very little weight but are a great all round work out

I used to lift just to try and lift more. Then I got into endurance stuff and while I found the gym strength handy, too much limits you. So I try and do both; it's hard getting the balance right! But the purely gym honed body is a bit gay if you can't actually run, swim, cycle or do anything else useful except brag at the pub.

Completely agree, just back from a work out, it included a run, row, yoga and the bits I'm not looking forward to tomorrow, 100 squats, 90 doubleunders, 80 sit ups and 70 press ups .. there were more, but I ran out of time ..

Well, I go very cross when someone crosses me, and I get into a fit of anger while I'm very cross. I must also qualify.

So, now this Crossfit is a big thing, then. It seems to have superseded that good old circuit training, newer HIT or HIIT, then. Exercise market is so changeable, innit. Our Brazilian Zumba trainer was crying with her ghetto player yesterday that soon she'll be out of job.

A friend of mine had a personal trainer coming up weekly to her house to give her an hour of HIT. She asked other friends to join her. I did, for a couple of times. Then I gave up. I thought I could do all that in my own home, anyway. Anyhow, one of those days I heard that my friend also had to stop her lessons due to an accident during the session. http://www.smiley-lol.com/smiley/spo...linegrosse.gif

She shouldn't have bothered, man. She's back to walking her fluffy Sh!tzu with pink ribbons round the block.

You do have to get the balance right. It's no good just lifting heavy weights so that you look like you're carrying protein tubs under each arm wherever you walk. That's just laughable. But try telling them to do some cardio though

High intensity intervals is the best way to achieve a higher level of general fitness which is why circuits are great for the majority. Different types of training are there for specific needs.

I got whacked in the calf last weekend (8 days ago) by someone on a surfboard. Couldn't walk for three days, woken me every morning aching like mad.

It's driving me nuts!! I can only do upper body weights and surf; nowt else!!
