Question

Hi folks,
I have a 6x2x2 Fish Tank and it it lit using 2 4ft tubes. It has a wooden top with no reflective material on it. The type of stuff that I am after has like a stick backing and a mirrror like silver finish on the main side. I would be looking to get this in 6 inch or 12 inch widths.
Anyone know what I am on about and where I could get it from?

Cheers,

Nick

Cool

I have a roll of 3" wide stuff, it came from where I used to work, it is used for taping heating elements to exhaust pipework in waste incinerator houses, it is called trace heating tape and I think RS Components or a pipework supplier such as Arco would probably stock it, I will post some phone no's when I am at work tomorrow.

Smile

Is it really reflective though?
The reason being that I want to bounce the wasted light back into the tank

Cheers for the info

Cheers,

Nick

Cheers anyway, but I don't want it to look 'bodged'. Come to think of it, mirror finish might be a bit too bright/reflective. Any options considered....

Cheers,

Nick

Cool

Yes it is reflective, it is basically sticky backed industrial grade shiny aluminium foil it isn't mirror grade but I have improvised some good light reflectors from it, apparently it works by containing heat loss from one side of the element, directing all heat into the steel pipe that it is taped to.

How about Brown Bread?

It's got a shiny finish and you wont be able to hear when your fish have their stereo's turned right up.

RS Components do it in 2" wide rolls 45m long, in 30, 40 & 50 micron thicknesses, at between £5 & £10 per roll.
Check http://rswww.com for details stock no's 176-573 & 176-567

I had a metal lid on mine, and painted the inside white to try and reflect the light back down, might be worth a go? Having said that I wasn't too bothered about it looking bodged
