The Welfare State ....
... this is hard for me to say, but - I think the Tories have got it absolutely right.
A life on benefits should ALWAYS be a life not as generous than the life you can have by working.
Limit Child Benefit to 2 kids, as a starter.
Kick those lazy chavs out to work - clean the streets, tend an OAP's garden, assist in other community ways ....... or you don't get any benefits!

I was watching the BBC Final Score yesterday, there was a minute's silence to honour the Philpot children at the Derby game, as the two eldest were season ticket holders there.
Tragedy aside, how can it be right that a family on benefits afford football season tickets!?
How much of this kind of thing is going on right under our noses?
Disability benefits aside, benefits should be to stop people and their children from starving, no more.

I was having a conversation thismorning with a family member and brought up the topic of me disliking the house I rent, it's old, it's small, it's featureless and it's hard to heat. This family member seemed a bit confused and said why don't you just move up where they live as it's a nice area with modern houses and close to town.
I then had to explain to them that:
A: I have a contractual agreement - something most foreign to them
B: If I break my contractual agreement I will lose my deposit - again completely and utterly foreign.
and finally
C: Because I work unlike them, I cannot afford to live in their area!
This country ****s me off no end.
Don't have a job? Never had one? On the dole? You should be living in a hostel or council estate not in upmarket apartments or new fully kitted out developments that the working class can't afford to move into.

The council estate near me has recently had £millions pumped into it. It was a beaten down area with a bad reputation. The idea was that people would respond positively to nice surroundings and that moving people from their current unattractive pebble dashed houses into brand new, A rated solar panelled homes with full mod cons and private fencing around their gardens would instil some pride and lift them out of the depression that has led to so many anti social behaviour issues.
After the windows had been smashed in by the kids throwing stones at the houses that were yet to be occupied and the paint scrapped off the fences all that was left was for the parents to find things to moan about. "The garden should have been made this shape", "i dont like the colour of the doors," etc etc.
Its very sad to see and to me evidence that there is a desperate need for change to help snap people out of this culture where they have learnt to expect everything for nothing.

They started with the public sector, teachers, and now the unemployed.
If you vilify a group enough, you can then treat them as you wish. Just as the ***** did in the 30's.......
And it's STILL not right!

I'm pretty sure the teachers have made a rod for their own backs.
And I think the comparison of the current Tory lot to the ***** to be somewhat sensationalist, which is ironic given the point you are making

Interesting article in the DT yesterday. The biggest rise over the last 10yrs has been housing benefit.
REASON : Parasitic buy to let landlords pushing up rent/ by default, housing benefit.
Anyone know any Mr Lewis ????

A lot of Landlords do not accept DSS Tenants.
Certainly, most like to buy a place and do it up for a private rental (you don't get the private rents smashing it all up - usually). DSS Tenants, for some reason, have little respect for the owner of the property.

This is an interesting read for all the benefit haters.
Of course, true benefit scroungers need to be dealt with, and I agree with the approach of both parties for reducing the burden, but the problem isn't as bad people would have you believe.
