Winter Fuel Payment under threat ...
.... for the better off Pensioners!!!
This is scandalous!!
We have paid into the system for the best part of 45 years, we deserve something back!!!
I rely on that payment to keep me out of hospital ..... so, it's a false economy if they cut it.
Reason being is that money heats my swimming pool, which keeps me active and healthy - imagine if I had to swim in cold water? That would cost the taxpayers much more!!

Great news, will go the same way as the child benefit I was getting. We need the rich to help bail this country out of the financial hole that NL / Gordon Brown go us into. Great that you can now do your bit too

You need us oldies to give you something to aspire to.
This is a car related BBS - the kiddies need the oldies to watch and learn how to drive properly and skillfully.

The problem with these means tested benfits is the cost of implementing and running a system to evaluate who qualifies and who doesn't.
Before if you were over xx age, it was asimple case of checking birth records. Now it has to delve alot deeper into people's financial information to clarify that they qualify or not.
IMO the whole lot needs to be scrapped. And use a single one-shot benefit allowance for everyone; not one for fuel for an old farts, or another for someone with a child, or another for a jobless person and another for a disabled person etc. I'd propose a poverty benefit and use it to replace everything, the criteria would be complex, but if there is only one form of benefit rather than countless types. It will be less costly to administer once implemented IMHO.

Me and the Mrs talked about getting a divorce again last night, I might then just become a lodger and pay her monthly rent. Bit radical I know, but over the lenght of time she would continue to get CB, we are talking over £20k.
The Labour party have also been very quiet about the whole CB fiasco, which is a shame as they could do very well out of it for very little effort.

Small consolation though for the monumental increases in "bell-end" tax
