Xmas present - wtf is this?
Hi all,
Can I please pick the collective brains of SN and ask: WTF is this?
It's completely solid, so definitely not a pipe. The screw is just an ordinary wood screw, it's not attached to anything and isn't joining two items together - it's just a few threads deep in the wood.
Another family member got one as well, and he has no idea what it might be either. We gather it may have been bought by our relative while on a holiday in Namibia, and there was some reference to drinking on the gift tag.
Any suggestions please folks?

It's a bottle opener. We have them in Ghana too.

It looks like a gavell (sp), the hammer that magistrates and auctioneers use. The screw is probqbly just been put in there to wall mount it

Got it in one, thanks! I tried it on a beer bottle and it's a perfect fit.
Not sure I'm going to be trying all the other suggestions for ways it might be used, though, but thanks anyway
