Free Ride on the "Airfix" B-787 on Dec 21st, would you?
Do I accept the offer of a free trip and night out in Warsaw whilst LOT are using a B-787 on rotation between LHR and WAW.
I'm a little apprehensive, somewhat like avoiding the A-380 for the first couple of years of service so they could "iron out" any issues. Seeing as the B-787 is built largely of plastics and composites along with the scare stories I'veread from former Boeing staff I was, again giving it a wide berth for a couple of years.
I was pretty keen on having a ride on the Dreamliner then I realised it coincided with the dreaded 21st December, Now I'm not sure how the Mayans sit with air travel.
Do I want to be fannying about on plastic planes 4 days before Christmas

I would not hesitate, if you don't go you will regret it.
If you do crash and die, you will not die in unnecessarily, the next production run will benefit from knowing what caused the crash and allow Boeing to modify their design.
Hope that helps.
PS leave your car keys with a trusted relative, just in case.

If you're worried about the whole 21st Dec thing we're all going to die anyway (apparently), so even if you stayed at home you'd die.
Go to Warsaw, get to a knocking shop, and if all hell breaks loose at least you'll go happy!

^^ all good sound advice (especially the double bagging)
a chance of a lifetime
if in any doubt, and to help you decide -- here is a pic of some other aviation enthusiast enjoying the same trip of a lifetime

If it were a Mcdonnell Douglas (or a Boeing 717 ) I'd run a mile in the opposite direction
You can get really **** about safety issues, but in reality, its no worse than driving a car with a dodgy ball joint and a bulge in one of teh tyres...and there is alot more of those cars about in that condition (or worse).
Just to make you feel better though: I don't think Boeing ever "properly" fixed the rudder control/hydraulic problem on the 737 either. Just concluded that they have as none have crashed recently, although number have inexplicable crashed beforehand.
As for 'airfix' composites, most moden planes use them, especially Airbus which have used them for flight critical components since the early 1980's, so its pretty old and established technology now. Ok Boeing seem to have issues, but so did Airbus when they started out with composites - some badly trained American pilot broke off a tail on a 13yr old A300, so Boeing fanboys were bleating about if it were aluminium it wouldn't have failed...yeah right, Aluminium didn't prevent the Comet or Aloha flight 243 from tearing apart.

Of course I'm going, never turn down free Polish hospitality and vodka
Some quality responses gents, RR engines being my favourite along with the knocking shop. Done the 380 many times now, it's up there with the triple 7 as my favourite PAX aircraft so smooth and comfortable as long as it's not QF
