Had an electric Super Kingsize (Or Queensize as I believe is the correct term), for 20 years. I'm now looking for a new one but the choice is so plentiful I get annoyed and go off the idea.

I couldn't buy anything smaller now and would probably go bigger if I can muster up the will to keep looking.

So you are asking what the benefits of a bigger bed are?

I don't get a hangover anymore now that we have a king size bed.

In the old double, my **** was always over the side.

super kingsize is the only option!

a double is a single plus 5%, no use to a couple imo

We've got a super-king; it is something like 6-foot across and bloody massive. I hate staying in any other bed as with the SK you have bags and bags of room to yourself and have the option to meet in the middle.

Hmm, were the opposite so a 7 foot long bed is a waste for us lol, but thats

the only option on the frame she wants

I'm not fussed about the width either, what i dont want to do though is buy

the thing and find we could have done with the wider one,

That said, i dont tend to move around much, its the other half who manages

to sleep at 45 degrees, no matter where she falls asleep lol

Been there done that...

Standard divan, (Mass produced, and falls apart / comes undone)

Sleigh type, too big and then its a mattress ballache, i like firm she likes soft

Memory foam, big outlay - dosent last and its sat on a mass produced base..

Were currently looking at a Waterbed, just need to decide on the size thats

all.

The sizes we can get are 5x7 or 6x7 were currently in a 4'6" lol

A 5x7 would equate to a 4'6 so no real gain but the 6x7 would give us

another foot to play with lol,

Memory foam doesn't last - really?

Water bed - if its upstairs, do you need to do something to reinforce the floor?

Matress we've got could be sprung differently on each half of the bed. Pocket sprung jobbie. It's also a king size and I echo all that's been said, standard double just isn't big enough for two. If we covert our loft one day then I'll have a super king size provided it will fit.

We have had our memory foam for at least 5 years now and we love it. Best matress we have ever had. We have changed the base for 'lift up' type to help on storage but with the memory foam matress, it doesn't really matter what base you have.

I don't mean to sound rude, but it sounds like you are being too picky.
I have slept on a water bed and never again!

Memory foam has a lifespan of about 7-10 years (as per a normal matress)

They also come in differing support levels, the one we want currently weighs in at about £1200 excluding a base!

The piston lift bases are absoloutly no use to us, as both of us struggle to lift the bed, even with a block of mem foam on top.

If we have a huge open drawer under the bed, it will just get filled with junk, and eventually the base will fall through. (trust me, we have 4 divan drawers that have had to be repaierd!)

The super posturepedict/ orthapedic 10,000 pocketed spring thing matress we bought last time has now given up the ghost, so to speak, so we want somthing else.

My wife suffers with a back / neck/ shoulder problem so sleeping in certain positions is diffilult. she tried a memfoam pillow to support her neck earlier in the year, and that was a waste of £80 lol

Shw was sceptical about a waterbed, but went and tried the ones in the shop, we found that a 95% damped suits us both fine.

Looking longterm. when the watercell needs replacing, its only £300 as opposed to another £1500+ plus for a new matress

(BTW do you honestly think memory foam lasts forever?)

No of course it don't. I don't remember saying that I did?

Nothing last forever. Our memory foam matress (king size) was only £350, so I don't know where you are doing your research.

Just did a quick search and found this:

If she likes the water bed, go for it. I just hope you have strong flooring/ceilings!

When I purchased mine it was about £900 reduced down to £500.
The one I have is one of the active heat/cold jobs.
I also have memory foam pillows - in fairness they're like bricks to begin with, so I can see why you thought it was a waste of money

Just had a nose round the local bed store...

6' is a superking, bloody massive, very nice, but i think its going to be overkill, may just go for the king ...

(but that extra 12" would be good )

King size: everyone sells the bedding.
Super-king: not so.

Oh and memory foam?
Singles now £99, doubles £199, King £229.

They all come in boxes of the same length as the advertised width, but vacuum sealed.
You lay it out, cut the plastic seals, remove the bag, unrol and walk away. Eight hours later you have your mattress.

I have three singles and a king bought like this and they are all perfect.

And yes, you can have a choice of firmness.

Go to Dreams and see what you like, but DON'T buy from them. The same mattresses are available under different names for a fraction of the cost elsewhere. They rebrand stuff with different names and sell at ridiculous prices ! Our king size was called a Sleepeezee Cairo in their store for £1150, everywhere else the exact same mattress is called the Backcare Ultimate 2000 and we got it for £370 delivered with a 5yr warranty. Make a note of the exact spec you choose and then Google away.

All sorted now, but thanks for all the input.

Went with the waterbed Tried the memory foam (Tempur) in the shop again, and found it to be a bit to enveloping, if you know what i mean.

Also tried own brand memory foams, there not the same TBH, close but no cigar!

Stuck to kingsize in the end, as much as i wanted superking, the problems with bed linen and her indoors when she couldnt get the linen far outweighed the extra 12"
