I'm 47 and been playing since I was 15. I enjoy playing everything from blues through to real heavy metal. I consider myself to be an accomplished guitarist and could hold my own in most company. My problem is I am very very shy, it took being with my wife for 3 years before I would play in front of her.

My dad says playing the guitar gave him little holes in his fingers.. Is this true or was he kidding me?

I tend to play things like rhcp, foo fighters, Neil young and pearl jam to name a few. I wouldn't say I'm brilliant but ok. Not a oyster of confidence in front of others but after a few ill give it a go but then it just sounds even worse. Lol has anyone ever posted a YouTube video playing?

Thank you Mr Taylor. I heard you strummed a bit yourself?

James

If you like some rock try "Road to Damnation" by Keywest on Spotify. Volume 11 of course.

I know exactly what you mean, I keep hitting a wall every so often with the guitar. You reach a point and kinda loose interest a bit and plateu.

I played acoustic guitar from 15 then jumped to the electric, went off it a bit for a few years and then learned slide guitar to keep my interest, went off that after a while and took up the bass guitar a few years ago to add another bow to my string so it were. I quite enjoy the bass guitar as its a very subtle instrument, its fairly easy to get good at it and when you are fairly acomplished you dont have any problem finding a band to play in. Bass players are very thin on the ground

Sorry, a bit slow here but just worked out that you are David's son, JL. Your Dad is very proud of you, and he has every reason to be.

I'm predominantly a bass player , (20yr ish)
Always dabbled in guitar and for the last 4/5 year been steadily playing guitar more and more , if I find I'm hitting a wall with the guitar I'll put it away for a while and try another day
The wierd thing I find is my bass playing never really varied with mood or amount of time I spent playing
Yet with the guitar I have very good days or awfull sounding days
Probably the old dog new tricks scenario kicking in
