Who has been to Boston
I have one day spare due to an airline error and I'm going to be spending the day and night in Boston, unfortunately its on xmas day. I have
a choice of three hotels I'm thinking of staying at but I don't know which would be the best for 1 day sight seeing?
My choice of hotels are all based on location, has anyone stayed at either of these or have any better recomendations? Has to be 4 stars or above.

Walked round Beacon Hill, and that little old church in middle of modern city. Nice walk, out on to some park before travelling on a tram think it was, back across Charles river and to Arlington heights ,staying with mother in law family
This was 1986 so little sketchy, do remember it was 100 degrees one day ! - hotter than carribean, I'd left month previous
Sorry can't help with hotels

We stayed at The Lennox Hotel, was very nice though we didn't eat in. My other half particular liked how it was handy for some of the shops - there's a Lord & Taylor almost next door.
Also handy for a drink at Top of the Hub which is a great way to see Boston by night.
Oh, just noticed you'll be there on Christmas Day - can't imagine much will be open! There's the Freedom Trail walking tour which will take you round some of the best bits

ChrisB, I looked at the Lenox hotel but it seems to be a little further from where I want to be. My plans are Cheers bars for one drink and a quick photo Im hoping the freedom trail is on to do part of it then go to Paul Reveres house and evening meal in North End for some good italian food. Its going to be a busy day but I hope I can do it all.

We've stayed at the Lennox and it's a great hotel, well placed if you want to get to see most of what Boston has to offer, but as you say not best placed for the freedom trail. You'll love Boston, but make sure you take your walking shoes.

My brother taught at Harvard for 4 years so ive been a few times.
Basics were go see the uni. go see Cheers Bar, and shop.
Rule of thumb, if on the Orange line don't go to like Jackson square etc, as that's known as the crap area. I actually was staying there, and thought it was ok, but I was a noob.
I only realized when I asked my brother, why I couldn't actually touch anything in the beer shop and everything was behind Perspex, like a bank LOL
I even had to shuffle my money through a special draw
Nice place though, although Washington is nicer and safer

I've been twice, the subway system is great for getting around, we bought day passes and went to loads of places.
The Aquarium is actually pretty good. As is the tower that has a city view, can't remember the name :/
There's always Cheers.

I asked a friend who lived in Boston for a few years. Here's his reply.
Where to start... Liberty Hotel, which has a fabulous hotel bar as well as another bar downstairs called "Clink" - old jail. Depending on how much money you want to shell out, any hotel in the "North End" - northeast part of the city - best Italian food in the city there. Great bar in the "Fort Point" area called "Drink" - best cocktails around. Not that it's a bar or hotel, but please please please get breakfast one morning at a place called "Flour", also in the Fort Point area - the sticky buns are unreal as are the breakfast sandwiches, coffee, twice-baked brioche and cream donuts. I can keep going but that's a start...

We visited the aquarium when we were there and thought it was very good.
The science museum is worth a visit too if you're interested in that sort of thing.
We also visited cheers having been big fans of the tv show, slightly disappointed when we got there as it looked nothing like the show set inside.
Nik.
