Boston is very good stuff and I really like the sound of it, but the real proof of the pudding is how it sounds to *your* ears. You're right that the boston's sound warm, and IIRC, they're also sweet on the treble: not biting or metallic.
Sounds like you're pleased, which is what really matters, but the kit you've chosen should give good results.
Have you got much/any stereo image? If not, you may want to fade the rear speakers out which may do wonders for the image. There again, if the tweeters are in the standard mounts, it may not. Depends on how serious you want to get, but be warned: it's a slippery slope
The next leap in quality may come from adding a sub. It's probably worth listening to an impreza with a sub system in to see what you think. It doesn't have to be "boy racer" ;>

Hello folks...
this is my first post in the ICE section but I just had to tell you about my new speakers...
I've had scoobys for the past 2 1/2 years. I never bothered with getting better speakers in my old MY97 but I decided it was something I wanted to do on the new (MY00) car.
I already have a Sony CD head unit in the car but the speakers have always sounded pathetic...they distort very easily.
So I went to Blue Chip in Derby to sort things out. My criteria was simple.
1. Improve the sound quality within the car
2. The new speakers should be descrete and use the existing component housings
3. Tweeters should be housed in the empty holes in the door handle surrounds.
4. I didn't want sub woofers and amps galore...nor did I think I needed them.
So I started by listening to some JL Audio 3 part speakers for the front...they sounded awesome...but I couldn't justify £500 quid for just the front doors
I eventually settled for a set of Boston Acoustics Rallys (with crossovers and tweeters in the front doors) and some Infinity Reference 6" in the back shelf.
The improvement in sound is nothing short of fantastic...and the installation superb...I can't tell that the doors have been taken to bits
The bostons in the front are incredibly warm in sound...which suits the varying range of music I listen to...
So...you ICE gurus....does it sound like I made a good choice...?
Cheers
Ian

Yes...I am extremely happy...I have started to listen to some of the 500+ CDs I haven't heard in ages...Its strange driving a scooby with the windows up .
Yes...I have the fade settings on the head unit slightly to the front...this seems to clean the sound up a little.
Still very happy bunny

And what's wrong with neon lights and subs in the boot?

Admittedly, there's no neon , though look carefully and you can see the scooby in the back window, just next to the fluffy dice

I didn't say there was anything wrong with appropriately installed subs...in the interest of sound quality and presense.
I was just purely stating to jerry that I wasn't intending to turn my scooby into the typical nova bass wagons that seem to swarm the streets of derby...and yes...they have neon strips along the side sills
chiark...your subs are quite nicely installed...if I ever feel the need for subs I would be looking for something similar...I can't afford to have bass boxes moving about it the boot as I do quite a few track days.
Ian.
(wish I could have gotten the JLs for the front doors...but 500 big ones....shesse !!)

Don't kick yourself over not spending the money on the JLs. If they were 3 way, then you'll have had wonderful fun installing them! Kick panel install is hard/very hard in an impreza due to the bundles of wire behind the panels, so you may be on for doing a monster door build. Not subtle, not ideal
The box is pretty immovable, despite my best efforts . Had to fit grilles over the subs to stop airborne things in the boot from wiping one of them out!
The setup probably weighs too much if you're doing track days. It's built from 12mm mdf reinforced with 3 layers of fibreglass, but still weighs a fair bit... one 12" may be a better weight compromise?
