60" plasma or LED or projector
At the end of our new lounge under a mezzanine I am planning a TV area. It will be open plan in a 5*13 room but the area under the mezzanine is only 5*3 with 2.1m height.
Thinking that a 60" TV would be more flexible than a new projector and big enough. Have amp, floor standing front speakers, centre and sub in boxes from last house, thinking of changing the rear speakers which are bookshelf types for something smaller like some eggs to go unobtrusively on the wall.
Existing TV is 40" 1080p Toshiba LCD and fine but not immersive for larger room.
Suggestions on TVs welcome, have seen Sharp LED and LG plasma at £900-1000 which I realise is bottom end for this size.
Have an SD projector but with HD sources and no setting to invert the picture plus its low brightness I don't think I will bother with. My Dad has just got a 1080p Epson projector in a 5*3 room but it is above a 42" TV and at 77" is good size for movies but too big for normal TV. Can't really see the point of both TV and projector on one wall.

If I were to have a 60" LED i'd make damn sure it has a full LED array across the whole rear of the panel and not just the edges. Otherwise colour and black uniformity would suffer.
Most LED TV manufacturers are very coy when it comes to admitting the LED arrangement on their TVs. Its one big reason why I'd opt for a plasma.
Projectors? I ain't got a clue. PLasma and LED would both have better brightness/contrast though.

You can't really have a PJ instead of a TV, PJ is not practical for when you just want to watch the news in the morning etc.
If you are into your films then I would say have a PJ and TV. That's what I have, ie 65 inch TV for normal viewing and then the screen comes down in front for films.
I'd say plasma as well, which is what I have. Sometimes when I'm in a store and see a led/lcd I think wow the picture has more 'pop' than my TV. However after staring at it for a few minutes I realise the picture is unrealistic.
I have a panasonic tx-65vt30b and it has a stunning picture, the sound on the other hand is so so, but that is what you get these days with very slim panels. I have the full surround business but sometimes you don't want to have to fire it all up if just watching a programme on TV

ive got both and id say get a plasma for your tv room. i have a 50" samsung 3d plasma in the front room and an optoma hd65 in the bedroom with full 5.1 surround and subwoofer etc and 120" screen. like has been said for everyday viewing your better off with a television as the projector benefits from a bit darker conditions for viewing.
