iPhone 1 year warranty
Ive been having a few issues with my iphone flickering at me. The problem is it is random and cant be replicated when someone is looking at it. It is currently 10 months old so have 2 months until the warranty runs out.
My concern is that nothing will get done until it dies completely after the 1 year warranty. As my contract is 24months I am amazed that this could leave me without a phone while still having to pay for it. Firstly are Apple products that poor they cant guarantee them for more than 1 year and could I really be stuck with another SOGA claim in a few months? For a £600 phone a 1 year warranty is a joke.

What's the issue?
To be honest, the Apple warranty is one of the best i've had to use. Any little issue diagnosed in store generally results in a FOC replacement there and then. Also if out of warranty they tend to repair for a reasonable fee.
Contact them directly and pop in for a chat.

A few times when I touch the screen it flickers. When I dont touch it its fine but I have to turn it off and on again to rectify it. It happened 3 times in the last 2 weeks so its not as though I can take it to the repair centre which is 1.5 hours round trip in hope that it starts flickering.
My concern is that there is something not right with it but proving it is difficult and I have just under 2 months to prove it.

Apple have a flat rate replacement on out of warranty iphones, IIRC it was about £80 for an instore swap as they do not repair them. Forget repair centres, book a genius appointment and head straight for the nearest apple store and they will swap it. Take a video on something else of the phone acting up as proof and take that with you, and you should walk out with a new phone in less than 20mins.

I can't find the hardware replacement costs on their site but they do offer an extended 12 months warranty for £61 if it bothers you that much.
Where did you get the £120 figure from?

I had a speaker fault , was replaced foc at meadowhall , my missis has a crack on her screen and they said its a set rate of £120 if warranty has run out and she gets a new phone.

If that is the case then that is perfectly reasonable and would be happy with that, but if the 1 year extended warranty is £61 I dont imagine that would be the case as no one would take out the warranty.

They used to have prices on their website but seem to have taken them off (or at least a link I found didn't now work and I couldn't see them advertising this fact). I thought it was more like £130 but either way like you say, more tempting than a warranty. Give them a call first though, you might be surprised!

I spoke to my father in law who cracked his screen within warranty, sent it in and paid £120 for a new one, so wouldnt this be a different scenario to if the phone dies or develops a fault out of warranty?

NEVER accept that your phone has just 1 year warranty! Under the fit for purpose ruling you can argue that if sold with a two year contract it must be fit for use during that two years.
If the device fails with your contract period the it is clearly not fit for purpose.

They didn't check for a fault on my 4 mate....just typed either my number or serial number in, said I had 120 days or so warranty left and gave me a new phone.
The £120 I mentioned that some **** has highlighted had nothing to do with a hourly charge.......that was to swop a damaged one for a new one that has no warranty

I wouldn't think a cracked screen is a warranty issue? Sounds like accidental damage to me.

I agree but I was curious to see whether this was a good will contribution gesture due to it being within the first 12 months. This is more likely as they can refurbish it and still sell an in date phone at a premium. If it was 2 years old, (i.e. out of warranty) chances are there will be a later model out meaning the refurbished prices would be lower and they would be less forthcoming in offering a good exchange rate.

Proof of what? They have a 1 year warranty all other phone companies provide 2 years.
I spoke to Apple on the phone and they assured me their products were only guaranteed for 1 year.
