Default Ideas for a computer worktop/ desk?

In the spare room between a wall and the bit that sticks up from the stairs is a 1.2 m wide gap. I'm looking to have a worktop for my laptop.
Any thoughts on what i could use. I want something better than plain mdf from B&Q. I've tried a kitchen place and it was £125 for a 40mm top. Any other thoughts. I want something darker, rather than lighter.

An old solid oak table off ebay, and cut out a 1.2 x 0.8 metre section?

do what I did. Buy the top and legs from ikea, cheap mate

you buy the top you want, colour , size etc and then choose the legs. You can even combine it two legs and a set of drawers if you like

Admittedly not a computer desk, BUT I made a big *** deck stand for my DJ'ing equipment simply from seeing what was available at B&Q and designing one from that. It was several lengths of pine wood in about 3/4 different widths and I made the design around that. Custom height to my "vertical dyslexia" () and about 2500mm long. Was quite fun and simple to make with screws, a drill and jigsaw. Still going strong about 7-8 years later.

A batten on the wall at each end will give height adjustment, save on the cost of the legs and give a bit more space underneath.

Some good ideas, especially the Ikea one. I already have the batons fixed to the walls, so its not really a table (with legs) i'm after. Just a top.

cheers.
