I use LED's all over the place, 12volt, 24volt and 240volt. Never had/seen any thing like that happen. Also you got to ask why some one would be filming that? unless they where 'expecting' some thing to occure!

"Looks like the damn thing is melting down.... holy ****!" lol.

I am guessing that the 'test' bulbs have been overloaded. Used LED's in the house for over a year without problems

Me too got them everywhere I can in the house with no problems. Sold literally 100's of LED GU10's an never had any returned with that sort of problem.

In the wifes shop she has strip lights of those nasty little MR16 Halogen bulbs. Absolutely cane the leccy and we have 32 of them to replace

I read that the 12V halogen drivers can't cope with loads under 30w. Every one of our halogens is 50w which I make 1600w - I'm assuming thats how it works out and thats the same as having a tumble dryer on. What you can do is get the LED bulbs and have one low watt halogen.

So for us if I buy 7x 3w LED bulbs and 1X 10w halogen thats 34 watts per strip (we have 4). About 136w.

Sounds odd but its hard to get to the strip lights to change the drivers in the shop as the roof is so high and changing the whole strips is too expensive.

My only problem is which to buy - they vary in cost and some are brighter than others.

Same as my shop. We replaced everything in here with LED and made a huge saving in electricity.

We sell mainly the Luxram 5W GU10's in both white & warm white. Same size as a standard GU10 and average on 25,000 Hrs lifespan.

Having had a look this afternoon (having the beared trimmed - the one on my face ) the drivers seem to be more easy access then I thought.

The GU10s seem way better - another shop owner I know uses the fluorescent GU10s and they look great.

I've just ordered one MR16 bulb to see how it looks compared to the halogens.

BODSKI - did you really notice a saving?

Yeah we did. We are talking almost 50 lamps swapped from 35 Watt halogen GU10's to 5W LED GU10's. Difficult to work out the actual figures as we use different electrical heating during different periods.

50 x 35W = 1750W used for on average 9 hours a day
50 x 5W = 250W

That's a 1.5kw saving x 9 hours = 13.5kw x 5 days a week = 67.5 kw saved per week.

Thats kind of how I was working it out for us.

The shop is on the borderline between having to pay 5% VAT or 20% so having these bulbs should ensure it remains in the 5% bracket.

Cheers

Less the increased electricity used in the winter to replace the lovely heat that comes off the old GU10s.

Would that be something that the bed-wetting warmists "forget" to tell us when they insist that we install CFLs (aka mercury death tubes) in all of our fittings to "save the planet/penguins/polar bears"?

FTR, i do think that LEDs are the future for lighting (despite their lack of background heating) and have bought many already (unlike the death tubes, that were simply sent, uninvited, by the "offsetting" power companies).

The price of the chemicals used to make flourscent has went up , so lets see what other reasons they give as to why we should stop using them. I remember when low voltage halogen was all the rage and a hairdresser got me to fit out her whole shop. They were everywhere. Then she got her 1st leccy bill and was on complaining how much they were costing her ! I told her every one was 50watt , and when you think that 2x 70watt flourscents got replaced with about 20 LV downlighters i wasnt surprised. I have no worries putting the LEDs in , (SMD ones) seeing they are 3.5watt !

Personally I think LEDs are too bright. On cars anyways.
