If you are not charging them VAT (T4), you need to verify their VAT number here:

If the company name does not match, or the number is invalid - you have to charge them VAT.
If it is valid, then print it out & keep it with your hard copy invoice.
We've recently had a Customs inspection which was a bit of a ball ache.

Outside EU
It doesn't matter as they are T0 - exempt from VAT
Must be delivered outside the EU with POD. If shipping to a UK Freight forwarder, you need "Proof of Export".
