Any good boiler offers?
I know, last time I asked about a busted boiler replacement I got a mention in a members song and a load of grief But I'm calmer this time and the weathers better
Situation is my previously fixed boiler (Baxi Solo 3 pfl 50) is bust again. Not the heat exchanger this time at least but it's not heating water or the radiators. I've looked up the symptoms (boiler and fan light on but no fan working or pilot like kicking in afterwards) and it does point hopefully to a PCB/hose/fan issue.
I've got a qualified guy coming to look tomorrow to see if it's repairable within a reasonable budget but if not I'm sat on the 'net looking at a plan 'B'.
I haven't £1500-2000 sat in a Swiss bank account to just cough up for a new system so was looking at offers with flexible payment methods (even if it means a chunk of interest). So far British Gas do a £400 scrappage scheme and Help Link can offer grants for certain circumstances. Has anyone else seen anything that may of interest/help in this field (no pictures of Ghostbusters please ).
Unfortunately a 0% interest credit card is not an option as my credit history was affected when I lost my old job 4 years ago.
Links of interest so far...

Ideally I would find something upto £100 a month over a couple/3 years, unless I win the lottery or sell my body.
As always, Scoobynet massive, over to you

Have a word with this lot, Andy http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/...FYt-fAodrkAfOQ
There might be some grants about, always worth a check

Valliant is the way to go if a new one is required? Within reasonable budget. I don't trust my Baxi now and it's an 'E' energy rating

That's my only concern, Rich. I forgot that's who you qualified through - duh

I will do Lee. The Help Link site tell you on the phone if your circumstances meet a grant. I doubt it now as I'm most probably over a threshold but the pay monthly thing would help for sure

I'm not ranting by the way, just had a rough week of sort other people's bodge jobs out on non contract customers boilers so this sort of comment is winding me up a lot at the moment. Cost isn't the be all and end all when it comes to boiler installations.

Dont go with BG...
over priced, and not the best systems..
Most places will say you need to do full system Inc pipes for guarantees etc...
Utter blox..... we replaced the aging undercounter unit we had 12 years ago with a wall hung one, and its doing well
Shop about in your local yellow pages for boiler fitters, trust me you will find one who will do fit only....
you may need to get a sparks as well to do any changes to wiring etc

Is this another option I have then? I buy a boiler myself (under the advice of someone like Rich who knows his stuff) on BNPL and just pay the installation fee?
I'll be honest right away, I haven't got a few hundred quid to either buy a second hand boiler and have someone fit or pay for a boiler cash and have someone fit. Not unless I go without heating/hot water for several months. I just don't have the disposable ££ until I'm out my time as an apprentice This is why I'll have to lump any interest charges etc. should the current Baxi need replaced (or parts are too expensive).

Whilst this only illustrates some quotes and does not compare quality, British Gas employees cannot assume that people will trust that their name signifies quality, but will need to fight for that in the market. There are enough tales of poor quality work from British Gas, yet the defence could be that there are bound to be because they install so many.

Company round here doing A rated combi boilers for £700 fitted.
Borrow the money from a friend or family member and pay them back £100 a month? Saves you paying the interest on it.

Assuming you can get a loan of some sort, you could do worse than get what I use in my rentals, Mains eco 25 I think they are called, around the £400 quid mark with all the bits needed to fit.
Around a days work for a indi gas man to fit.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm just sat waiting for a gas engineer chap to do me a diagnosis (hopefully for mates rates as he's a family friend). If a new boiler is required I'll certainly get more than one quote if there is a big difference from different companies.

Well I've got a stay of execution as they say. Chap popped round (in a posh Audi so business must be good ), had the outer skin off and asked for the symptoms. Was fiddling with the fan for 20 minutes and was found to be stuck. That was stopping the pilot light and thus the process.
So luckily £20 for his troubles is my outlay (today anyway) and my boiler works again. A warning perhaps So I'd best look at a replacement in the future.
Hopefully this thread can help others too as apparently Baxi's are common for fans and PCB's.
