Default Fly Tipping ?

Interesting discussion at work today, one lad had spotted a load of rubbish dumped in a layby that seems to be a favourite of fly tippers, the thinking is that they do this to avoid the charges at the municapal dumps (Sorry, recycling Centres), it seems to happen a lot and then it has to be cleaned up, why not lower the charges or make it free rather than have traders dumping rubbish by the side of the road, do they make much money from trade waste and does it outweight the cost of clearign up matresses from laybys ?

All waste has to go through recycling now which costs money, I guess they have to pass this cost on to anyone dumping commercial waste. Catch 22 really, continue charging to dump and risk fly tipping or make it free and recoup the costs eleswhere.

Private individuals don't get charged for dumping stuff at the recycling centres in N.Ireland, commercial recycling is charged

Same here individuals don't get charged only commercials but it seems to be the commercial fly tipping that's causing the problems.

A good reasOn for it our way is, if I want to go to the tip in my work van to get rid of a wardrobe.

I have to 1. Apply for a pass on a specific day with I think about 2 weeks notice
2.then send a copy of a V5 to apply.

Same as above. They have all sorts of red tape to take personal rubbish in my signwritten van.
When i go in my car now, they sift through all my crap to make sure none of it is commercial. Jobsworths.

This ^^^^^
And the fact that to commercially carry "rubbish" there are many many different waste catagory codes, they also need to have waste transfer notes, and duty of care, vehicles that are checked regularly, and a waste carriers licence!

As much as i despise fly tippers i can totally understand why they do it, these days it has been made more than difficult to throw anything away.
And even after you have all off the above, you then need to have an account at said tip/landfill, and then pay a standing charge, plus a charge per ton/item

Not everyone does though.
Probably depends on a lot of differing factors.

I've not noticed this behaviour where I live.
Sometime ago, I had work done in my kitchen, - new ceiling as it happens.
The guy said he would have to charge me extra to dispose of the old ceiling, but said he would happily bag it and then I could dispose of it myself.
6 runs to the dump and it was gone.

Normal cost to tip is around the £120 per ton mark and most tips charge a minimum of 1 ton
Also thing like plasterboard and mattress are charged on top of that figure
It's all to do will eu rulers that mean we have to reduce tipping to landfil

The gypos are always fly tipping on our works land which we then have to pay to clean up. Half the problem is most people would rather pay Mr pikey £50 cash in hand to get rid of their rubbish rather than pay a proper waste removal firm £180.

The council incinerators are a pain as I have a van but they wont let me drop anything off from my home without a permit and now they have told me my van is 10 cm too long for access yet a car and a trailer can gain access. If I wanted to dump a bed from my home how can I do it? It's all this red tape bull**** that's probably causing fly tipping.

My thoughts exactly, as a builder the costs of skips is a burden i have to pass on to the customer, what could of been a cheap job usually ends up way over priced.

Councils are getting too greedy. We get loads of stuff, dumped on the track to our place. Mostly builders rubble. Being out in the sticks, it's easy for them. It's really annoying for us and must be worse for the Council as they have to shift it. If the price was reasonable I guess it would not happen so much
