Parking ticket question
I got my first one yesterday and still don't understand why. Parked on a single yellow on a Sunday. Where I live that is normal, yet was visiting somewhere else and got a ticket for it. Surely if you can't park on it on a Sunday then it should just be a double yellow
What happens if I refuse to pay and just ignore absolutely all contact? Eventually a CCJ and they screw your credit rating up?

Assuming its a civil parking ticket i.e. issued by the council / a traffic warden then you will have a much harder job of getting out of it. You can write a letter pleading mitigating circumstances, for example say you were visiting a relative who is seriously ill and you thought it would be ok to park there on a Sunday.
Double yellows means no parking at anytime a single means there are restrictions and there should be a sign on a lampost or some such near by saying when you can and cannot park. That said if the sign(s) are missing you also have a case.
If the ticket has been issued by a private firm however it is worth trying to ignore it etc.
Either way they'll let you know before it gets as far as a CCJ.

Look for yellow stripes on the pavement too.
Stripes running down the kerb (either single or double) can mean different restrictions but as said, you needed to check the sign.
Cough up on this one I think!

Thanks CD, it is council issued.
Ignoring the rights and wrongs I just want to know what is the worst they can do to you if you just ignore them? Is a CCJ the final step they will take along with bailiffs to get their money?

So as I thought then. I'd rather get a court summons and the judge put me in prison for a week for non payment than pay the robbing barstewards of a council i'm that annoyed about it but a CCJ isn't something i'm prepared to get slapped on me so I will have to pay.

As it's a council issued ticket, just pay it now and go through their appeals process using whatever mitigating circumstances you think there are. If you don't the fine will keep on getting bigger as time goes on and it gets more serious.

I was't the only one either, a whole line of cars were parked with me again which is why i'd assumed it was fine simply because of all the other cars parked there. This was a residential street with what appears to be no other reason for the restriction other than it runs parallel to a beach. So the council just cashing in on visitors then. I still maintain if you can't park on it on a Sunday wtf isn't it a double yellow?

write to them...my wife writes for my entire family when they get a ticket...she must at-least do 2 per month - most are for my dad who suffers from parkinsons and forgets to put his disabled badge out..
90% of the tickets get cancelled...
you have nothing to loose, go on line and contest - they put the ticket on hold so cost wont go up, and if they reply you can write to them again..
