Buy the blackberry one if you can find one cheap, I'm an iPad user and love it but for cheap ones I would try go for a reputable maker like blackberry. Even next we're making them at one point and they were crap. There's a lot of rubbish at the bottom end of the market.

If you want to spend more then a playbook at £180 is a steal. After that it's ipad all the way.

Google the Ainol Novo 7 Aurora tablet, great spec and runs ICS 4.0, Very hard to get hold of though. There is a similar version called the elf but lacks volume hardware buttons and a slightly lesser display (same resolution but not IPS) less than 140 quid plus postage. I am getting one for my daughter (Cough!)

I had a playbook and returned it as I bought my daughter an HTC flyer and I liked it better so I had to have one The playbook is selling 2nd hand on ebay for about £120/140. I think its a better tablet than the HTC but the lack of apps or the expensive price for some put me off it but for an internet browser and the ocassional game its really good. My HTC has 3g so the battery dies quickly but the play book is wifi and when it goes into sleep mode it really does work so it could be left for say 12hours and still have loads of charge left.

Blackberry Playbook is very good, especially for ~£169 in Currys / PC World.
It's high spec and excellent build quality, remember it was built to sell at £400-500.
For web browsing, email and media playback it's superb, it's just the size of the app store that let's it down. There are good apps & games available, it's just not an extensive selection and there's no Skype, Dropbox, etc.
The wireless copy function with your PC works well, no need for iTunes!

www.hongkongeeksuk.com has a pretty massive selection of Android tablets, many with the same IPS 9.7" screens you get on an iPad but at 1/3 the price. Direct imports from the far-East, but free delivery and they guarantee to refund any VAT or import duty you get stung with if your purchase gets held up at customs

My wife has an Ipad, and I keep borrowing it at night to browse the web and play videos, so decided I need something for myself. Wasn't bother about apps (have the ipad for that, and to be honest, I don't tend to use them anyway) and wasn't keen on spending the money on a second ipad (lovely as it is). So, ended up buying a Playbook for £165 yesterday at the airport and installed the new 2.0 OS on it when I got home. Got to say I'm very impressed. The hardware is lovely, screen size more than adequate and the OS is very responsive and smooth. Much better than the various android based tablets (decent enough Samsung ones) that I've tried in the past. The web browser is excellent - fast, smooth and displays everything (including flash).
The tablet itself feels solid and high quality and so far I'm delighted.

depends how much you want to spend on one.
I just got a first Generation Asus Transformer for £250.
I would go for a Playbook or a decent android tablet and if you really want to be raped by apple an ipad.
