Default Time for a new TV...

Quite fancy a SMART TV, maybe a Samsung. There's a new one out next week I like the look of, but are there any other serious contenders?

Absolutely ridiculous price for a smart tv at that size. I have a Samsung smart 3d plasma and i only paid £600 for it and its 50". I have the iplayer on an xbox and my ps3 also I have a media player that does all my streaming needs so its wasted on me but is it on you? LED is really nice as I have a 42" lg LED tv but if I was paying that price I would expect it to be 55" or above!

I have a panny plasma 42 in the bedroom, and an LG 3D LED smart tv in the fron room

The Panny is far more forgiving than the LG if you sit too close..

The LG however when on full HD is stunning

Samsungs are nice, but way way way overpriced

Panny is the way to go. GT30 I think mine is. Not cheap but in this case you get what you pay for imo.

I paid £1600 for my Panasonic 50" plasma last year Picture quality is everything to me though and this panel is THX certified. It has some "smart" features but that was never a selling point for me, plan to build a home theatre PC soon and this will do everything a "smart" TV can do and a lot more besides. Samsung are supposed to be better on the "smart" front though.

You do get what you pay for (and gimmicky software is cheap to make)

http://www.avforums.com/reviews/Pana...82/Review.html

'We have to remind ourselves that nothing is perfect but for the combination of utterly outstanding pictures, an excellent and coherent feature set plus more than a drop of style, the VT50 has no current competition. It truly is the benchmark by which we will be judging this year’s crop of televisions and, for that reason, we take pleasure in awarding the Panasonic VT50 a coveted AVForums Reference Status Award.

The Panasonic VT50 will leave you gasping in awe because for movie watching it has no equal. With its mighty dynamic range, deep rewarding blacks and astonishingly accurate colour palette, there simply is nothing that competes on the market today. It won't be for everyone but for anyone interested in seeing video at its best, it's a must see!'

We have a Samsung 3d tv, it's very good. But If you get close though the picture on ours looks gash. The smart 3d is good though, and it's got an engine that converts 2d to 3d which is really clever. If you get the sammy check their website for an update straight away. Good tv but as said a bit overpriced.

I'm with a few of the others on the 'smart' functionality. I'm adding a Mac Mini under the TV for much more comprehensive online content and ease of use. It will become the digital hub for all our movies, music, pics and media, as well as doubling up as a PVR, and of course, downloaded material (legit and otherwise ), whilst still being a fully functioning pooter for all the usual tasks.

If you can afford and can live with 42": VT30 - whilst its still hot...http://www.rgbdirect.co.uk/ProductDe...nic-TXP42VT30B

Its a 2011 model, but the new Panny top-end plasma line up (VT50) does not have a VT model in 42" anymore.

The VT models are the top of the range.

We went for a 50" plasma Panny two years ago when they were at their peak, I feel Samsung have moved forward since then and overtaken Panny in some areas.

I almost took the plunge earlier today and was offered last years UE46D8000 with 4 pairs of 3D glasses for £1350!

I'll take a look at the VT50 though as the only other Panny I considered was the GT30.

They cocked my delivery up so reimbursed me £30 for the inconvenience as a gesture of goodwil, all was redelivered then a further 2 pairs of glasses and blu ray player turned up!!! Result. plus got avatar and star wars saga for nowt through panasonic.. But obviously i returned the extra kit
