it seems when you have run out of money and imo more importantly, imagination, you call in the "market"
the "crack cocaine" of quick fixes
free markets have there place, but I suspect policing isn't one of them

I think an even greater worry is the business about the government wanting to be able to hide certain kinds of court evidence from public view on the grounds of people using the evidence to claim compensation money.
Now there is a handy way of finding a cover up for all sorts of embarassing items!

We've been here before...remeber Safety (s)camera partnerships? For-profit use of law enforcement to gain revenue. Yeah, that went down well.
Now, for those dropping cigarette butts, littering and loitering around everwhere with a tinny of Fosters in their hand...yeah, why not? But we know what'll happen; What we'll have is a load of jumped up little hitlers not too different from parking wardens/attendants paid to meet targets for law transgressions issued. And no doubt this will extend to motorists parking on pavements, opposite junctions and maybe even those with blown bulbs (one could hope)...maybe not a bad thing either, but its not really stamping out crime is it?
We all know what will happen. Huge focus on misdemeanor crime and less on organised and severe or violent crime and fraud. And even then it will be limited....can you imagine a group of 15yr old mouthy "yoofs" listening to a private employed 'rent a cop' who has no powers of arrest? They already laugh in the face of PCSOs.
However, I do wonder is this privatisation intended to replace PCSOs? Which IMO are already a huge wasteful drain on police resources and certainly this change of tact may help reduce that drain if they are employed to do more donkey work and get more frontline police out on the street. However I'll remain pessimistic.

You only have to look at the two security guards on the You-tube link I posted of the guy trying to take photos outside Golden Wonder in Scunthorpe.
Their behaviour, respect for the law and knowledge of the law was abysmal.
But then, so has been that of some police officers I have had the misfortune to meet......
