Default Birdsong

Albob kindly pointed out to me on the 'Books' thread that this was coming out this year as a Drama

Starts tomorrow night on BBC1 at 9

Not into tv dramas and stuff but if this gets anywhere near the book with the graphic description of WW1 should be amazing

Fingers crossed

Being made by TV "luvvies" it will concentrate on the homosexuality angle, I'd think.

I don't think that book can be squeezed into two hours somehow.

To be fair, Tipping the Velvet was made by luvvies - right up your 'In a Hotel tonight' street, Trouty

edit - just put Birdsong on - nice bit of cunnilingus going on.
As it's halfway through I'll have to watch on iPlayer..

I thought it was good. It was worth switching the telly on for it.

I suppose it's good to be reminded of the horrors of the trenches although we don't seem to have learnt what history has shown us about sending our soldiers in to die in miserable conditions. And a dash of decent sex for the upper classes plus a gay frog - good mix.

Not so much good as necessary I feel.

Trouble is, politicians seem to think it makes themselves look ever such brave heroes to send our young blokes to their deaths, especially when they go to visit them...a long way from the dangerous bit!

I don't remember no gay frog - artistic licence on their part, or dementia/obtuseness on mine?

Sorry if I have maligned anyone, especially our friends across the water. I only watched it in part and thought that the head of the household whose wife was being screwed was gay (hence the unfaithful wife) and French. Apologies. dl

I don't remember that, either! Although it's a good ten years since I read it. I remember being very *ahem* 'watery eyed', though.
