Question More problems with neighbours dog-what would you do?

You might or you might not remember the problems we have had in the past with the neighbours dog. It barks and barks and barks. This is bad enough but it started to climb on the wall and try to get into my back garden.

I complained and said I was going to have to report the dog as it was making people scared to come to our property. He has since built a fence, which should have stopped the dog seeing over and barking at visitors.
The neighbour fancies himself as an old gangster and is awful and not the most approachable bloke.
Anyway, the stupid fool has only gone and pushed the dog house up against the new fence and of course the dog now jumps on top of the dog house and barks at visitors, once again. The oil delivery bloke rang me up and asked me to let him in as he was worried the dog would get over the fence and gate. And today, a delivery bloke come to us via my other neighbours garden as he too was frightened of the dog.
I feel sorry for the dog, as he is left by himself virtually from 7am until sometimes about 6pm. He's a canny dog really just very big and quite intimidating and barks for England. Am not really sure how to tackle this now. The Police are not interested as it is private land (an old farm) and the Council are a waste of space.
It's stupid that folks daren't come to our property because of someone elses dog. Any idea, please

The owner needs a bloody good talking to by someone he might fear perhaps

I feel sorry for the dog which also should not be left on his own for that long.

Are you afraid of it? Is it friendly towards you? If you aren't and it is, can you get it into your back garden, wait for your neighbour to come home then give him hell about how it took a flying leap at someone who was very lucky not to get bitten?

As for the noise heck knows.

Can't you get something down via the noise pollution act. It's not a pleasant situation when you've got nuisance neighbours, especially one's who won't compromise. I would have another word with this bloke (as unedifying as it may be) and see if you can find some common ground.

He is a Mastiff and he sure isn't small. I feel sorry for him as he is one very lonely dog, but the situation is intolerable. Delivery drivers and even some members of family are frightened of him. So have to take the long route to get to my house. Ok, no hardship, but why should they because the neighbour does not care. I wonder if he even cares for the dog. The dog does not frighten me, but I am used to him. His barking does my head in though. The oil man said the dog was jumping at the gate, hackles up and snarling and barking at him. Of course he was scared. I had to stand at the gate, until the oil was delivered and the driver safely back in his cab. Not good in ones dressing gown, with wet hair from a nice shower. It was bloody freezing cold too

If your neighbour is out all day and the dog managed to get onto your property and 'bit' someone then the police would get involved. I'm not saying you should make up this story .....

You could report the problems to the RSPCA, they would investigate if the dog was being left unattended for long periods and take action against the owner if required. The problem is relations with your neighbour would suffer because of it.

Get the rspca involved suggesting the dog is being badly treated. Which it is, a dog left on its own for too long continuously like that is frowned up by the rspca I believe.

Had the same problem with a neighbours dog and got so wound up one day I went around and threatened to nail their f****** dog to their front door if it didn't STFU which was of course the totally wrong approach.

That was some years ago and the dog died shortly after. However they got an new dog last year which started barking all day ( its a little yappy terrier type thing). I phoned the council noise pollution dept who went around, served an abatement order on them and told them that unless they shut the dog up they would be prosecuted and fined, it did the trick as the dog has been quiet since, unless of course someone else killed it.

eh!! Of course the property belongs to me. The farm has 4 barn/cottages, all privately owned. His dog, in the picture is on the wall that my gate attaches to. My wall.
His house is behind mine.

A cold bucket of water thrown over the dog every time it barks! It will soon get the message!

Or report it as previously mentioned!

You know, that's not a bad idea I could use the hose. I doubt I could lift a bucket that far, to get a good aim. Especially if its full of water.
At least it would not hurt the dog. I could never harm an animal, no matter how much it annoyed me.

Doubt that water will work, it's too old to train now, it's more likely to enrage it....

I wouldnt do that if I were you. As it will **** it off and it could have the opposite effect to what you intend.

Ah right. Looks like a word with RSPCA. No one speaks to said neighbour anyway, so relations couldn't really get any worse.
Like I said, I feel sorry for the dog, but am at the end of my tether now

There's nothing as headwrecking as 24/7 dog barking and whinging, Lesley. I do sympathise with you. It was a nightmare when our neighbour babysat her son's big dogs. They were apparently very cute. So cute that my dog lover son took their picture on his phone while mending my shed's roof in my back garden. But they really gave me serious headache every evening after work and on the weekends. Perhaps you can train your demon Alsation Jet to scare your neighbour's off your back garden. But about barking, I really don't know. Hope you get something sorted.
