OMG - no wonder funeral directors are loaded
£75, yes £75, to deliver a CARBOARD coffin!!
and another £100 for the flipping coffin, made out of CARDBOARD!!
Good god, I am so glad that I am not actually in the situation of needing their services, but imagine someone being given a quote like that. Price gouging at a time like this is far from acceptable.

if they are sending it on a double pallet then it could quite easily cost them £75, cardboard boxes are VERY expensive to buy you would be amazed at the prices.... for a short run in that sort of size I can see it easily costing £20+

Afaik there is nothing against it, unless the law has changed / been introduced Theoretically yes, its only for decency and dignity that coffins are used. But then its not you who is doing the arranging/ attending so to speak.
Also the undertaker may refuse to handle things unless a coffin is used.
with regards to chucking in the ground. again unless the law has changed, you can in theory be buried anywhere unless subject to local bylaws / covenants ect. but you must meet certain requirements (depth location etc)
However if you do choose to be buried under the patio etc, it prolly wont do much for residual values of your property
