flat fours
Hi, i used to be a proud owner of a Alfa Romeo 33 Veloce Cloverleaf in red exacly the same as this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/78002012@N00/3892999376/
It like the scoob i now have had a flat four engine. It was a great looking car and went as good as it looked. Shame i wrote it off as if i could open the garage to see that i would be so happy. Is it just me or do other people think about thier old cars and wish they still had them?

The two I miss the most are my 1.6 Mk1 Golf GTi and my '73 Beetle.
I sold the Golf because I fancied an RS Turbo and have regretted it ever since
The Beetle got written off in spectacular syle by my (still) best mate Fortunately he escaped pretty much unscathed, if a little shocked

I was tempted by a 33 back in 1992/3 when I worked out in Cyprus, may have gone for the 1.5 which would have been a mistake I think, the 1.7 was probably the better choice, instead I ended up going Renault (19), which in the long run was probably a better choice over the Alfa.

I also had a nice mk2 golf gti and a corrado g60, the good old VW days..I know i,ll miss the scoob iff i ever decide to sell it. I,ve considered it once or twice but i allways talk myself out it..I,d rather buy a second car or van.

I have had a 33,75 and 156 in my time....Loved them all,and despite what people may think all mine were perfectly reliable..
Also had a Turbo Uno,which was an incredibly quick thing until you came to a corner!
My favourite italian car that i miss was my Fiat Mirafiori 131 racing...It was Orange with black revolutions 4 spokes on........... Wish i still had it. Been looking for one for years and cant find one.

I also had an orange and black Fiat 131 2.0 Supermirafiore Sport way back. Reg number was HRO911V.
Also had a red Alfasud Green Cloverleaf which I got for free after the bloke across the road from me couldn't get it going on the morning he was moving. A few squirts with WD40 and it started just fine.
Also a red 33 Green Cloverleaf and a black 2.0 155 widebody.
None of them gave me any trouble, were great to drive and were mega reliable (the Sud after new dizzy cap and leads.)
I only one I don't miss really is the 33.

Was just trying to think of the reg of my 131... It was a "W" thats all i can remember..Wasnt there a Sport,Racing and Abarth in the line up ?
My 155 was a widebody and it never gave an ounce of trouble, not even a bulb..
The 75 i had was a 3.0 veloce and it needed a steering rack in my ownership..£200 job done IIRC.
My 33 only had a rear wheel bearing and a backbox i think..
Great cars...

Great cars to drive and loved the raspy exhaust note of each of them but the 155 had stupid wiper speed selection, the 33 had the (initially) weird offset driving position with close pedals and the Sud had lovely inboard front brakes (a complete delight.........not!)
The 131 doesn't look much now but it was ok back in the day.

I checked wiki and the 2.0 Sport/Racing made a huge 113bhp and 140bhp for the Abarth. I think the car weighed about a tonne ish. Hardly even a hot hatch bhp but they did go well.
Looks like mine made it to 1990 then became a pile of dust and rust.

113bhp....
Bloody hell it hardly seems anything does it nowadays..
I would love another go in one,as well as an RS2000.. I realise that we all look back with rose tinted specs, but the cars seemed to go so well. They certainly didnt feel like what a modern 110bhp car feels like..
Perhaps it was the lack of traction and the long 4 speed gearing that made them seem a handful..
I had a Mk 2 RS with a 2.1 rallytune block and Burton big valve head and twin 48's.. That was around 155bhp IIRC and was fearsome to drive..3rd gear sidewards action was easy pickings..
I now drive a 320bhp RWD car without traction control and it really has to be provoked to get leary..

What are the 156's like to drive and what issues do they have? (1.6ltr)
