whats the cheapest way to get to cornwall?
I need to find the cheapest way to cornwall, Penzance to be exact. My best friend is getting married next year and I am one of the groomsmen. I need to get my suit (cornish tartan to be exact) fitted.
Not really feeling the 6 hour drive each way, so I was wondering if there was any other way of getting down there that is
a/ cheaper than driving
b/ quicker than driving
c/ less hassle than driving.
Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers in advance,
astraboy.

i looked into all avenues last year mate from barnsley to newquay but in the end driving was the cheapist option, 4hrs from south yorks isnt too bad as the A30 is no longer a pain in the ***,.

Don't think it's 6 hours each way unless you drive very slowly mate It takes me 4 hours door to door to just outside st austell so I'd imagine it's 5 hours tops to Penzance because it's a straight run down the A30 and the A30 is mostly dual carriageway now
Newquay has an airport but I doubt flights would be any cheaper.

If you're only going down to get the suit fitted why don't you just get a tailor to measure you up in your home town and email the measurements down?
I know it's not quite the same, but it's hellishly cheaper

I was born here. moved to the SE and have now moved back. The answer is ....... DRIVE! Penzance is at the end of the train line - but you'd be lucky to find a train to there that didn't stop at every station in Cornwall! Whereas driving, cut off the M5 at Exeter and follow the A30 ..... end of.

Besides which even if public transportation were cheaper it's still preferable to drive as you don't have to share your personal space with the great unwashed

Just drive its the best way,why wait around for trains etc.Get in your car put some chilled out music on and cruise. And keep yourself going with a stash of Ginsters pasties.

National Express coaches are pretty cheap. However people might be able to give you a better answer if they knew where you were coming from. It normally costs me about 34 quid return from Reading when I go to Saltash and it is about a 4 hour journey.
When I drive I go M4 to Bristol then M5 to Exeter I think then A38 into Cornwall via Plymouth. and it only takes a few hours.

Megabus will take 12 hours
look on trainline, see where the stops are then book a ticket to each of the stops, can save a lot of money, the missus has just saved about £70 for a one way to Manchester
with one stop
or look at flights to Newquay
If money is no object then the train is best option, otherwise I think you will end up driving
