Default Wedding Evening Entertainment any ideas?

We are getting married next year and got a harpist and a magician so far for entertainment until after the meal. We then have a dj that will play for the rest of the night. We are thinking about hiring a tribute band or a singer who can play for a few hours in the evening just to break things up.

I did enquire about Stavros Flatley for a bit of fun but they want £2000 for 2 x 5 min shows.

I have also looked at Fake that and they are about £1200.

Any ideas or do you know someone really good.

Thanks for the help

Why not go back to the original ways all those years ago and have the wedding guests be witness to the fact that you are fully married in the eyes of the law? That would sort out the entertainment for a while anyway!

We had a band that did covers for ours, cost around £1k IIRC so your Fake That quote doesn't seem unreasonable. Most bands that do weddings can also generally sort out the DJing side of things too as they already have to bring a PA, lights, etc.

That said, sounds like you are trying to cram a lot in. Some folks may appreciate the odd half hour of quiet time to engage in the long lost art that is conversation. Probably why I spend most my time away from the noisy bit when at weddings etc. especially if the bar is separate

yr doing too much. we got married this year, church wedding, full sit down meal etc etc.

I had a band and dj, did different sets, had breaks etc.

by the time you get to the evening and even more guests arrive: yr doing meet and great etc etc, you just don't need it. everyone has had a drink, everyone is getting on down to the music.

been cynical, don;t even think you need a harpist or magician.

the point of the day is to celebrate you and yr wife/husband.

so the focus is on you, yr speeches etc etc.

also I found a stack of time was being taken up with photos.

oh, whatever figure you have now: consider you may well double it before you get to the actual day !!!!!!!!

if you want a stunning photographer: google claire morris from leeds.

we had a team of 3 shooting us from start to finish, amazing pics.

I think that a harpist, musician, band/dj is all a bit too much, maybe even as if you are trying too much.

I'm not even going to hire a dj. I will be using a kick *** PA system hooked up to my I pad. Plenty of music and no need for some fat dude who wants to play his own rubbish.

Am I the only one that got this?

Also, I think a magician would be good ...one of those close up magicians that does card tricks and stuff while people are just sitting around tables or stood up at the bar etc. In my opinion it would add entertainment and not take up too much time.

Do you have a local pub that puts on tribute bands? If so ask the landlord who he books and where from.
When I needed to book a band I asked around and found one who only wanted £50 plus a share of the buffet each, they all had day jobs so were doing it for kicks not money.

Also if you have a disco/ band and want people to actually dance do not have any chairs near the bar especially if it's in a separate room.

I've been to a couple of weddings in the last couple of years who had a Casino set up, pretty good fun. You got so many chips to start with for free and whoever had the most at the end of the night won some money.
