There's been no deaths within about a 3 mile radius of where I live (live in countryside away from main roads), but until you get onto the main roads, there are 10+
..and clicking around my area, there seems to be a very high percentage involving old drivers aged 45+ years.
I still believe that people over the age of 60 should have to retake their driving test.

Interesting data... most in our are were pensioners ..
would like to know what the criteria for speed cams is again...
because some of the roads where speed, sorry saftey cameras are, have no or only one fatality. i thought it was 2 serious incidents to be considered?

I note
So it's very strange that non of the deaths in my local are occur near the three Gatso's closest?
Yes I realise that they are also placed in area's where serious injuries also occur - so it's not conclusively an argument against them.
But at last with more data like this it can only assist in dispelling that speeding by itself causes accidents. As opposed to other things like road conditions/layout/weather - where I can see 2 deaths have occured in area's where I know the road layout and sometimes the weather causes problems (but the Gatso's are not at that point on the road - just on a "normal" piece of road that is unlikely to see a problem).
Detailed information about each crash is recorded by the police at the scene. It is subsequently transferred onto a computer database. This is available to researchers from the Economic and Social Data Service.

Looking at my area, a depressed industrial town in the north, the majority are young people, with quite a few involving motorbike/lorries, and a few motorbikes alone.
Yet STILL the so-called Safety Camera Pertnerships insist that forward facing cameras are the preferred ones
Tell me again how many bikers one of those could catch?

This data is not at all acurate for my area. At least they admit there are likely to be errors, hence the feedback form.
For instance, it says, in 2003 a 46 year old woman was killed, and two others seriously injured at an accident in the street where I live. Its a very quiet residential area, so I find it strange that I or my neighbours have never heard of it.
In another entry, a 73 year old man died in an accident in January 2002 on a stretch of road which wasn't opened until April 2005. It was just fields at the time.
It also fails to disclose an accident where a 16 year old pedestrian was killed by a speeding police car travelling the wrong way round a roundabout.
It did accurately record my two motorcycling friends deaths, but they got the time wrong in one of them.

10 deaths on my road alone!
And lots of serious injuries, that this website doesn't show. I know there were 27 accidents on one section of it in the last 5 years so the deaths are only part of the story.
