Do people not check their cars?
Now the nights are drawing in earlier its shocking the amount of people who don't have working lights on their cars, specifically rear lights.
Their licence should be torn up.

I was stopped twice on Friday evening over a 40-mile journey on quiet country roads, over two different policing areas, for roadside checks - tyres, lights, indicators, brake lights, tax disc - so the police seem to be up to something.
During each 5-minute check the car behind both times got asked to pull off the road, and on one stop a car coming the other direction was pulled off. I guess the owners of these 3 cars will be checking them more carefully in the future.

its that time of yr for all the ghey boys to drive about with their front fogs on permanently.
for that offence alone, I think crushing the vehicle is a reasonable punishment.

Her son bought a new headlight bulb at the weekend and swapped it out and it still didn't work so I check the fuse and it has blown (well... melted !!) the previous owner had put a 20 amp fuse in for a 15 amp one and it had melted the fuse and luckily not the surrounding holder etc, I wee bit of fuse wire (the correct ampage this time) and it was fixed but now we had a spare bulb but it still cost us £9 from Halfrauds !!!!!

I checked mine all over on sunday morning
This is because some utter **** slashed 3 of my tyres
The police were as useless as expected, i was the 9th person to ring that morning from my area and the previous weekend had 50 cars done a mile down the road
No leads at all according to the forensics woman, who still came out to look at the car even though it was covered in dew/moisture
One of the cars slashed was a local copper, so they do seam to be showing a bit more interested in this case, will be interesting to see which area is targeted next weekend.
No damage anywhere else to the car, and my lights all work

bulbs can fail at anytime though?
even after a good check , 3 seconds later they could fail.
police cars are meant to be D.I@d everyshift, and the amount i see with bulbs out is quite a lot.
its usually one blue one out, then the other one, then back to the origional ect? must be an intermittant fault

No excuses IMO unless they are HID bulbs (but even thye can be quite simple to replace). If I could slap 3 point on every car driver I could see with defective lighting, I would.
Even if the headlamp needs to be removed to replace the bulb, its usually a 10min job at a garage (or 20mins if its the bumper/wheelarch liner). A good one will do it while you wait. Although I will fully understand that some main agents and franchises will pull down your knickers for this 'special' service
The dumbing down of car consumers by the automtive industry by making most modern cars akin to white goods hasn't helped a single bit, but still - does awoman person still use a washing machine if its tearing cloths and pumping water all over the kitchen floor? (don't answer that, as I know a few who are still stupid enough to do that )
I really wish Police were more proactive with this in my area. So many cyclops one-headlamped cars driving around its unbelievable. And I can guarantee if they don't check or repair the lights, the tyres won't be much better (or its using budget Linlong teflon coated super-slidey specials), or low on pressure, low on oil, brake fluid so old it has a 100degree boiling point etc.

but bulbs can fail at any time ali-b.
you could check car, jump in and drive and 2 rear bulbs could go, or a headlamp, or any?
i agree continual driving with defective lighting should merit punishment, but not slapping 3 points on everyone?
what actually anoys me more is driving at night, with so many overpowerful headlamps, or incorrectly aligned, and w*nkers with full beam on.

Me too. And I have HIDs!!!
The left one sometimes doesn't light up instantly and sometimes gives a different colour beam, so I assume its on its last legs and bought a spare just incase (although with my luck it'll be the ballast ).
I have a strong feeling alot of people don't have their bulb fail on that day...they've been driving round all week like that. Because they either haven't noticed (like those driving on sidelamps/parking light in the dark) or too lazy/busy to sort it out. I'm not sure which type of driver is worst - the blind ignorant or the intentional/inexcusable ignorant.
I have a friend who is the latter, his one car had a habit of blowing headlamp bulbs for a short period (I think he drove through some deep water and got condesation in the headlamps which took a while to dry out)...he'd drive 80 miles a day like that, and it was only until the other one blew leaving him with nothing but the parking lights and fogs that he did something about it (the car did have a bulb failure warning light too, so he knew if a light wasn't working). I even gave him a spare headlamp bulb and a torx driver to keep in the car to remove the one headlamp! (quicker/easier than removing the battery to gain access, other side was a doddle...I know because I've done it for before ).
I'd like to think 3points would make him more inclined to sort it out sooner rather than keep putting off until an irate friend kicks his lazy backside and does it for him
