They run deals for about 3 weeks at a time on different stock lines. They send a leaflet through the post with them on. The deals are really good for basics like bog roll, kitchen roll, washing up liquid and powder etc etc.
The food isnt really cheaper than supermarkets, but is better quality - especially meat
Other than that, there's always a lot of nice quality unusual seasonal stuff.
I wouldnt buy any electrical goods without checking elsewhere on price.

Frontline flea drops!
The electrical stuff is cheaper on line but some of the bulk meat is quite good value.
I tend to buy in bulk and split the item and the cost with family.
As with most of these cash and carry places,if you're aware of the general prices of things elsewhere, you can sniff out the occasional bargain.

24 x 330ml bottles of peroni normally £17.99 + VAT
Huge pizzas for around £7 are worth it for parties etc, fillet steaks are surprisingly good.
We got a Samsung TV with a 5 yr warranty for the same price as the cheapest offering online, but even online was only 3 year warranty.
As mentioned earlier, Costco isn't cheap across the board but it has cheap deals that are well worthwhile

As others have mentioned you need to keep your eye out.
Certain (but not all) alcohol lines can be cheaper there, last week I bought a case of Bollinger with each bottle working out at about £25, in Sainsburys they are £35.
Jack Daniels is also cheaper most of the time.
The mirrors they sell for about £50- £75 I've seen in some shops for £300, and I mean the exact same one.
Their big packs of batteries seem to be cheaper ( I need loads for kids toys).
Their items such as TVs are not the cheapest but their returns policy is second to none. In the first 90 days you can return it just because you don't like it and then its a proper 5 year warranty with a dedicated concierge service at the end of the phone.
They sometimes have some ok clothes, stuff like practical winter coats rather than fashion items of course. Saying that I've bought a pair of Hugo Boss and CK jeans there in the past
And forget their Pizzas and hot dogs, try their ribs straight off the spit!

Packs of Bottled soft drinks like 2ltr Pepsi and coke is cheap.
Bog roll is often on special offer Washing powder/liquid is generally good value.
Fresh bagels are good.
Got my past two Panasonic TV's from there. Both times cheaper than anywhere else I could find and the 5 year warranty is an added bonus.
Got a couple of Michelin tyres (same as what was already on it) fitted to the Wife's car and they were cheaper than anywhere local to me.
Keep an eye out though as others have said, not everything is cheaper and it's easy to get carried away.
I generally call it the £100 shop because even when we go in for a couple of things we end up spending £100 on stuff we didn't think we wanted

I wouldn't be so quick to write-off electrical items. I use Red Laser app to check the price.
Costco is usually with 5% of cheapest but has the best, no quibble warranty for 5 years on lots of items. If you include that value then it is often cheapest.
Food is not much cheaper but some things are mega-cheap.
Duracell batteries - cheap (30% discount voucher as well at the moment - useful if you have kids (or a WAG ) with lots of toys)
Cans are super cheap, clothing can be cheap, you just need to go in and check it out.
You get lots of types stocking up for their shops paying for four figures worth of stuff with cash!
A very varied mix of clientele!

One thing to note, and for Gawds sake listen...
ALL the prices shown are EX-VAT. So when you're wandering around picking up shed-loads of stuff and thinking how really cheap everything is... you get to the checkout and someone slaps 20% extra on the bill.
It catches everyone out.
Oh, yeah - and the cakes. Oh, man: the cakes....
and keep away from the sweet aisles - everything is in HUGE containers and you just have to don't you.
All the dried herbs are stupidly cheap - just go look and you'll never buy from a Supermarket again.

I remember Makro never showed an inc VAT price.
We go to Costco maybe 3 times a year and fill the freezer up. We've always been happy with the quality / value of meat, so stock up with minced beef, stewing steak, pork steaks, lamb steaks etc. Also grab some of the big packs of washing tablets
