Old Games Consoles - Will they ever be worth anything
I have an SNES, Master System 2, original Gameboy and Game Gear tucked away in my loft.
I saw a boxed Nintendo NES for just £40 on ebay.....with the Zappa gun!
I am actually shocked at how cheap they are right now.
What are the chances a nice boxed original examples actually appreciating?

Indeed, I've got all sorts that I could really do with getting shot of - SNES, Dreamcast, PS1, Amiga A500, Sega GameGear, and even a Atari VCS (woody) back at my parents. None of them seem to be worth anything.
If you want to play retro games then the are numerous emulators for pretty much any system you can think of that work really well on a modern PC. The novelty soon wears off though...

I have just stuck 2 * original xbox, a PS2, 40 Xbox games and all the associated stuff on Ebay, just want it out of the way, I have in the past started thinking about buying an Atari VCS but in reality its just clutter, the games were pretty crap and can be played on an emulator so for £30/40 its an expensive bit of nostalgia you will never bother with again anyway. I am trying to de-clutter so some other muppet can buy my old rubbish, have 2 * 360's now, why would I keep the old versions. You end up getting nostalgic about your own one, my Xbox had lighting decals on it the kids got me for Christmas one year but a photo will do to remember. My in laws have a barn that they store all their old crap in, you expand to the space you have so they now have loads of dusty old crap that nobody want but to them because they spent a lot on it they still think its worth keeping.

I know you can get emulators but it is just not the same.

Maybe.
Neo Geo consoles and games have always demanded a premium.
I think if you had mint unplayed in box versions plus some of the most famous games then I see no reason why some might become collectable.
Almost everything becomes collectable - Transformers, Star Wars, Lego. I'm quite into collecting and rebuilding old RC cars. Tamiya in particular can demand quite a price (I know one person with every single mint in box version of the Kyosho Optima, all 13 of them and not one of them is worth less than a grand!!!)

Not so sure on most of the Console stuff, the odd game goes for good money but most were produced in their millions, the collectors are out there but really, there isnt that many of them, I just imagine the bloke who paid $13,000 for an old NES game explaining that to his missus, how much must he have wanted that and what do you do with it when you have it ?
Cant see stuff like the Xbox being worth anything anytime soon but can sort of understand rare or mint old consoles being worth a few quid, and its not quite the same using an emulator but it gives enough of an idea to quench any nostalgia, for me anyway it does, don't want a house full of old crap, I kind of reckon that the house has a value so the space in it does as well, the more crap I store the less space I have, my missus fills cupboards and then never reviews the contents, it pisses me off it just stays there, stuffed full and never looked at but I darent move anything, hafl the time its unrelated and disorganized, some old patterns, a shoe expander, some books, some of the kids drawing and a baseball hat with a plastic turd on the brow, all essential.....

I would probably have paid you silly money for it too
Transformers are another good one for expensive buys. I've got a full set of Takara re-issues which are worth about a grand.
This guy is pushing it a bit though

spectrum zx48k's are going for £100. Same price as they were when they first came out.
I think in about 20 years time, your console will be appreciating though games seem to a lot quicker. There's a limited edition Lego star wars first release for the ninendo wii i think, thats going for treble its original cost as there werent so many version 1 releases on the console. Id keep em in the attic. They will be worth something one day.

It depends. the very old stuff like collecovision and intellivision or the odyssey are worth good money now. The nintendos and segas were produced in huge numbers.
I have loads of consoles, probably worth sod all. Nes, snes, n64, gameboy, master system, master system 2, megadrive. saturn, dreamcast, game gear, atari 2600, zx spectrum, ps1, ps2, lots of xboxs and 360s. Never play any of them.

I have an intellivision system, boxed with voice emulator and a few games, all in working order, it would need to be a very good offer to sell as I couldn't imagine life without Lock'n'Chase I remember playing it constantly as a child and then again once in 2002 not seen it since

I'm always amazed at how much some compact cassettes are still worth.
If you've got a sealed TDK MA-XG90, you've got £50 worth of cassette. And they just change hands between people who simply collect them. Odd.
