Default Any TV watching "experts"? If so........help!

Right, anyone who knows about TV, not repairing them, but programmes etc, please read on.

Since coming home from 3 months in France, I am stunned at how bad TV here has become. There seem to be even more adverts than there were whn I left at the end of May. I cannot walk into the front room without thyerfe being asdverts on. If I sit down to watch half an hour with my tea, it's adverts.

So...........what can I do?

In France I have a satellite dish that picks up all UK programmes and others, up to 230 TV programmes and 160 radio stations, all free, buy the satellite dish and a box and that's it. Does that exist here?

Or should I crap the TV by cable and just have a decent aeriel and a digi-box?

Or is there SOME way I can avoid adverts?

It's driving me batsh1t, please, someone, help!

Get yourself a PVR. Humax make some decent kit, and with them you can jump the adverts - I set mine to jump forwards 2 minutes at a time, so generally takes 2 jumps per break.
They do setups for both Freesat and Freeview.

you can just go out and buy a motorised satellite system so you can watch all the same stuff you watched while you were over there , i have one on my house which tracks from 45 west to 45 east with all the sattelites inbetween , takes a little while to set up but gives you lots of channels
the only trouble is a lot of the channels are slowly converting to encrypted signals so you need to keep patching the receiver to enable you to keep watching the channels and if they use the sky encryption method then you are f**ked
i quite often watch things like german eurosport and things like that as there are next to no adverts for anything and they have different range of programmes .

Virgin media catch-up skips all the adverts by default (I think) ... so unless you need to watch an ITV programme "live" as it were, then you could always watch it just a bit late?

I hardly watch telly these days - pretty much for the same reason.

You can get freesat http://www.freesat.co.uk/, but you don't get very much really. From what I can tell, it is more or less freeview but using a dish rather than an aerial.

That's what I thought in France, except it gives you all the regional variation. I watched Look North from Hull, then skipped to some guy in Cornwall.

The other channels seems to be predominently either foreign/arab/muslim/Seikh, or sex channels. They have to be seen to be believed: some REALLY ugly old bird waving a mobile phone at the camera........ugh!

I don't think you get the foreign channels with freesat, so you will be safe from having to see such things.

I'm not sure whether you would get all the regional variations, possibly just your own area, but I wouldn't want to be quoted on that.

I find Sky with the family standard package plus the sport package gives me a very wide variety of HD channels and I can also watch all the BBC and ITV programmes if I want to.

Sky is not that bad on adverts and they time them well anyway.

Whatever you get you will still have to pay for the British TV licence of course.

Sky Sport with Eurosport is worldwide and very good too.

Record everything you plan to watch and start watching 10 minutes later, then you can fast forward the adverts ?

Yes, or pause it for 10 mins and go and make a brew then when you start watching you can skip the adverts
