I'm just full of cheer today aren't I?

The FTC has given thumbs up to a company, Social Intelligence Corp., selling a new kind of employee background check to employers. This one scours the internet for your posts and pictures to social media sites and creates a file of all the dumb stuff you ever uploaded online. For instance, this sample they provided was flagged for "Demonstrating potentially violent behavior" because of "flagrant display of weapons or bombs."
"The innocent have nothing to fear..." Yeah right.

Typical of the modern times we live in.Only employ boring nerds without a life.
Sure, check they are not up to anything illegal but this is just stupid.
The best companies I have worked for have always had a generous helping of people with a bit of spark, personality & individuality.

It is interesting .... I did look someone I interviewed up on the internet and found her doing what I would call inappropriate things.

That on its own wouldn't stop me hiring her (I didn't hire her) but if it came down to two people I would choose the one I didn't know so much about ...

Don't understand how this works ... if my name is John Smith, how would this company know it was me rather than one of the other million JS's?

No; only employ people who realise how stupid it is to put incriminating evidence on Facebook. If you want to show pictures of yourself being idiotic to your friends, try doing it in person.

Because you'll have sent them a C.V. or application form with your email address on - easy to search for!

Can't believe they can authorise such intrusion into a person's privacy. What happened to the data protection Act?

Still, I would not go anywhere near Facebook anyway. Not a good idea in my book!

Best hide all the photos of me waving an SA80 about then! Not to mention the GPMG SF or the 84 mm MAW. Me in the cockpit of a HUEY gunship might not be a good idea either

The whole point is that your public profile on Facepalm is exactly that: public. You can in theory lock the photos where only certain people can see them, but many people don't bother - they've probably even forgotten that they are there.
