Can anyone reccomend a resort/hotel in Portugal?
Hi all, just as the title says really?
I am looking to go the end of August but have no idea where to go.
I'm trawling through trip advisor, but it's taking forever!
If anyone has any reccomendations of good places then I will be very greatful. All that I need is that it's child friendly, and not in the middle of nowhere, unless there is plenty to do on site.
Thanks all

I assume it's the Algarve you would be primarily interested in?
Been twice and had a great time on both occasions. First trip we stayed in a place called Alvor, nice quite little town and a spectacular beach. Plenty of places to eat and stuff, if you wanted a bit of nightlife the next nearest resort (Praia de Roche?) had it all and probably only cost a few Euros to get a cab to.
Second time was to Albufeira, went with a mates family and had two adjoining Villas, was great as the Villas were tucked away, had there own pool etc. but we were only a couple of minutes walk from "the strip" with all the bars/restuarants/clubs etc. that had to offer. Turned into a right drunken fortnight, had a great time. The beach and the old town there were also very nice.
I may be worth considering a hire car while your there as there is plenty to see and do, and you can set your own pace rather than being sold over priced excursions by the reps. If you're with family I can highly recommend the two water parks, we had a couple of great days out to these.

Sadly it looks a bit expensive. On the most part people who I spoke to have said that you are basically paying for the service of sending your children to the kids clubs all day (like baby sitters) while the grown ups can do whatever they want.
As much as the idea sounds nice, its not my cup of tea.

Alvor sounds nice, with the kids we don't need too much going on in the evenings.

We have stayed at Colina da Lapa near Carvoeiro. See 37° 6'46.29"N 8°29'34.82"W in Google Earth. About 45 minutes drive from Faro.
Has a pool and organised activities, water polo, football, tennis etc. every day.
Couple of good restaurants within walking distance in Sesmarias.
Nearest beach is a good walk or a short drive.
No local nightlife, but Carvoeiro at 7km has some.

I stayed here for a week and really enjoyed it:

Think Albufeira is the most popular resort. We found the hotel pretty nice.
