Default My daughter was nearly Groomed.

Found out via my ex that my daughter had a conversation on Skype with an older Guy..That ended up with him showing his genitals to her. She is 15 yrs old. This guy offered to buy and pay for a new Blackberry if she showed him her *****....Even offered to top up her Mobile for £20..Police informed and interviewed my daughter this evening.

They took her laptop away for examination this evening and have rung back saying they need to speak to her asap regarding this. They have traced the guy and need to take a further written statement.
I have his details through Facebook and he is in the Navy. I have looked at the conversation between them both and my daughter clearly states that she is 15 and this guy still goes on to w*ank on cam to her.

My daughter is disgusted and ashamed to have let it get that far..Soon as she saw him doing this she switched the laptop off.

I'm livid....i hope the police have something tonight as they need to come back at 10pm as they have traced the guy involved and further developments have taken place.

It's happening all the time - the Internet is not yet fully understood by most people.

At least she wasn't put in any serious danger .... a close call though!

I know what you are going through.

I want too. I friended his Girlfriend last night on FB and got my Nephew to friend her and send a message to her..Explaining what he has done. Now i know that was the wrong thing to do as all his internet history Ie Facebook has been deleted. I hope this will not effect the Police investigation.

This I feel is the danger of the modern computer age.

When your teenage son/daughter squirrels themselves away in their bedroom with the laptop. Who knows whats going on in there.

I don't think I'd ever allow it myself...Instead a desktop computer, in a more public part of the house. However with smart phones and iphads etc. becomming mainstream, this may become a futile act.

Has anyone ever gone into chat rooms and pretended to be a young girl to keep to their phone topped up?

No, me neither. I never did that in high school

Don't know if you've been passed this by Police, however this site contains good advice. Hope you and your daughter get over this quickly.

My three are 16 11 and 18 mnths all girls. They are not allowed out the front room when on the laptop and phones are left downstairs at bedtime
It seems a bit draconian but I don't want to be their buddy I am dad and as such am often out of favour because " my friends are allowed "
I feel for you mate if I was in your shoes I would be toolin up and getting details

Erm actually. A group of us manged to get our whole university IP range banned from Alamak chat for baiting dirty old men and horny teenagers/geeks. Afterall, this was during the time that finding a woman on the internet was a rarity; You'd be lucky to find one using a computer!

Never did it myself (honest )...I tended to just wind up the high level Ops (who had to pay to moderate )

Horrific stuff

My 7 year old wants to buy a small lappy with her 8th birthday money and what she has saved, this thread has put me right off the idea.

Admitedly she only goes to kids sites, Moshi, Club penguin etc but she is not stupid and knows her way around the computer, she opened up Power point and created al sorts using pics we have on the pc when she was only 5, so it wont take much for her to set up all sorts if we dont govern her useage (which we do)

Burial at sea for this pervert would do the job.

Gutting, but why was she chatting to a man she doesnt know online ? (genuinely why, does she know a friend of his etc) ??

If it was just cause he asked to etc, well, you need to teach her stranger danger etc.

i have 2 girls,6 and 8,am always telling them, even on their online games,Not to chat or if anyone tries to,call me,even these legit kids games like woozlebuddies, cuddly bears, have a chat forum bubble, not on really in my eyes.

As i work in I.T i can do some things, but, unfortunately,as you have had the misfortune of,these ***** are out there.

hope it ends with a positive result for you all.(His nads on a chopping block)

Such is life unfortunately.

She is 15, and no matter what you may teach kids, there is always a risk one day they will do their own thing against parental advice. Perhaps it is a friend of a friend, or rightly or wrongly a random and things have turned bad. Unless their every move is monitored, you can't know everything they do, once they hit mid teens. Thankfully this all happened online and not face to face. Not that I mean for one second that I think it's ok.

Mick, I really hope the police get the bloke and he's locked up for a long time to come.

On the same subject, a very similar thing has happened to someone I work with (their partners kid) only it turns out to be in the family. A very f*cked up story I must say. (assuming it is true)

Lucky escape.

My kids are young but my wife and I have already decided that all internet use when it happens will be done from communal areas in the house and monitored. As somebody already said I'm not here to be their best mate, I'm their father.

Its shocking when it happens so close to home, but the positive thing is that she knew he went to far and told someone.

As Lisa says, there is only so much advice we can give our children before they get to an age where something 'clicks' and they think they are invincible!

Just see this is a lesson for all, time to move the computer.

My children are only 3 and 5 and they access their own computer in the living room, where it will be staying. Now my son can get on youtube and acess videos he wants to see, I know its only a matter of time before a typo allows something unsavoury to pop up.

As they get older you will benefit from being their friend as well as their father.

A shocking story! I'm just glad she was able to tell you what happened, you seem to have a good relationship with her.

I think it's time I get my little bro's computer out of his room.

That's key. As much as you want to do this, you need to stay out of it. You don't want him being let off because of something you've done even if it takes all your willpower not to.

if he is in the navy find out what camp he is from and give his commanding officer a ring and let him know the score and that the police are involved that would be a world of **** going his way
