I've got a double garage at the moment, its one of those bolt together concrete jobbies.
Thinking of changing it and getting a proper brick one built, anyone got any clues how much one would cost to be built roughly?
One with a pitched tiled roof would be nice.

Just about to build a two room extension for about 9k. SHould be able to build a double garage for 4ish, but the majority of the costs will be labour for bricky and roofer, so it depends who you know. (Brickys quoted me between 2k and 6k )

Mine has so far cost about £2500 I guess. It's a single garage, 21ft x 12ft with pitched roof and tiles/brickwork to match our house. It does help that my Dad's a builder and has done the labour (with my help obviously) for free.
Materials-wise, as ours is built on a slope and on unsuitable ground, we have had to go all-out on the foundation. I worked out that the whole foundation weighs about 15-20 tons and cost about £1200. We needed about 2400 brick which, being matched to a new-ish house and not yet readily available, cost about twice as much as they should. Managed to get a discount in the end but it still came in at around £700. The tiles cost about £250, roof trusses cost about £220, can't remember what else. Miscellaneous bits like roof felt, guttering, fascias, drainage etc were all lying around at my Dads but they'd add up if you had to buy them.
Definitely worth it though, its a damn sight bigger than the 'garage' you get on modern houses, and is big enough to fit both my motorbikes and my scoob.
If you're lucky enough to have a good level surface on which to put your foundation it'll be a lot less hassle compared to mine, but unless you know someone it will cost loads in labour regardless.

If you dont know any brickies, chippies, go up to your local building site and see the site agent. He'll know which guys are any good and for a few bob they 'll usually be very helpful to you.

I'm currently doing one or two days a week fitting garage doors, I fitted one on a new garage last week, just out of interest I aske dthe builder how much it was costing, he said about 16K, and then he said that the customer had actually had a quote for 30K Ouch! hence why he got the job, but I gues Mega did say he wanted it roughly built, so I guess about 20p should do it!

Wow, some people must really have more money than sense. I work for a national construction company, so have a reasonable grasp of the costs and about £2-3K would sound ok.
As for a builder quoting £30k - just bear in mind that, excluding land, the likes of Barratt, etc can build a 2 bed semi for around £20k !!!.
