Default NS and I -Thank you very much!

Well what a result from NS and i

I bought some tax free RPI linked certificates three years ago that matured last month. These deals were withdrawn quite some time ago.
They've written to me and rather than shoving it in some account paying 0.1% they have put them straight back into an account that continues to pay about RPI +1% tax free.

With RPI at about 5% that's 6% tax free

That's excellent. Just looking on the website just now, there doesn't seem to be anything like that available. Must be just because you had those certificates with them, but that's very good.

Yes they withdrew them about a year ago. However they seem to be happy to roll over the certificates/bonds for those who already have them.

RPI + 1% tax free is about 10% gross at the moment for a higher rate tax payer so nothing else comes close

We shouldn't really be delighted with 1% return after tax, but it is so much better than other options that we are. Recent patronising cash ISA adverts just wind me up when really they are taking money off you for saving in real terms with this ridiculous ZIRP.

Never miss an opportunity to make others happy, even if you have to leave them alone in order to do it

Good result there Ding! I took out a number of these too, and the first 3year ones for me matured last year - I was surprised they went automatically into another bond with a decent rate (as they were closed to new applicants at the time), but obviously pleased as the returns are unbeatable, and the money is insured.

Managed to get my ISA into a Leeds building society account with similar terms too a couple of years back, so a decent chunk of my cash is beating inflation!

Been playing around with Zopa with good results too - so 7.3% there, or rather 6.3% after their fees.

s.

Thanks Pete.

I remember having a discussion on here with you some time ago regarding Zopa. You obviously went ahead with it. Could you share some more details as to how you have found the whole experience?

Thanks
