moving home, did you regret it at first?
Been in my new pad for 4days now and just can't get confortable and have a nagging regret of moving even though my new place is much nicer, cleaner, quieter and newer!
Is this the norm when moving home?

Been in my new place for nearly 4 months. Just about used to it now, and it didn't feel like home at all for the 1st 2 months.
We've ripped this place out and are in the process of putting our mark on it. It hadn't been updated since about 1965!

Im about to do this mate, well hopefully.
My theory is it should work like getting a new car, you are so wrapped up in the new one that all the sentimental values of the old one get shoved way to the back of your mind.
If not, i would be worried about having made the right choice.

Our move from Whitehaven to Lymm, Cheshire.
Hell yes, I moved from a large (and I mean huge) 3 bed semi with massive garden and a large garage to a small 4 bed semi and paid twice the value of the Cumbrian house for the privilege.
The move from that house to our detached house in Lymm. No - love it!

You get used to it. Takes a few weeks though.

At first yes, we moved from renting in a quiet village to our own place on the edge of a town. Took a while to accept I couldn't change the view out the window and its been a year of DIY. Certainly more comfortable now, still a few jobs to do but it feels much more like its ours.

Maybe from my perspective it's a little different, we went from Sydney to Hampshire, from 10 months of Sunshine to a British winter how fookin depressing can it get ?
Been in the house 7 months and it's finally feeling like our home. I know what you mean about it not feeling quite right, I reckon 9 months to a year and it will feel right. It didnt help moving in with just a blow up bed and a pillow for the first 2 weeks until our stuff arrived from Syd, just felt all wrong even though it was the house that ticked all of the boxes.
I have never wanted the clocks to change and spring to break as much as I have this year, I have hated being stuck in doors not able to enjoy the outdoors which became a way of life down there, it's amazing how quickly you take that sort of thing for granted.

Yes sounds very normal, its just a house at the moment, not a home.
You say its 'much nicer, cleaner, quieter and newer' which are all positives so its just a matter of time
Have you unpacked everything yet? that helps a great deal

Moving house can be daunting. Feeling regretful about the move at the start may depend upon how "used to" one got to the previous place and people, no matter how much worse the it was in comparison to the new pad. It could be the emotional and physical exhaustion of moving that can make one feel negative about the move. Unconsciously, one may be more in favour of grounding and stability than moving etc. etc.
New experiences soon take over the old ones, old ones move away somewhere in the distant memory. Eventually, the new pad becomes a new "home".
Best wishes on moving, Jamz3k.

When I moved out (parents) to a flat I was a bit uncomfortable, things in different places, not all the "tools" I needed for day to day life ..
The house I bought after that is in the same road as my dads, so the house is identical inside .. just with a drive and more garden, so I was already used to it .. I cheated

Thought it was time for an update.
I hate my new apartment. The next 9months cannot come soon enough so I can move back into a house!
Now as you know I am not one to moan but:
Gas is extremely expensive compared to oil
I am constantly aware I am not on ground level
There is no hose to wash my car
My neighbours kid is noisy(not his fault he's just a kid)
My neighbours in general are noisy
I live in a nice area but you have to go through a scummy area to get to it and i've noticed the scum like to come down this part as they can smell things like clean clothes and cooked dinners.
There is truth in the saying that if you have good neighbours, don't ever move as I am planning on either driving my car right upto my neighbours bedroom window(which luckily is very easy to do) and redlining at 8000rpm thru my nice unmuffled exhaust at 3am Sunday morning or showing how much noise I can produce with my lovely 500w 12" Monitor Audio Subwoofer hooked directly into my ipod as payback for last night.
