Government IT should not be 'sexy'
Whitehall IT chief Ian Watmore attacks Labour's record

However even Mr 'stuffy It' man announces
His "personal" view, he added, was that Apple products, which he said he used at home, should also be used more in government.
Just off to call my contact in the home office to see if they want some iPad's

"He insisted the government was committed to using more "open source" software to save cash - but had to balance this with concerns about how easily it could be "hacked". His "personal" view, he added, was that Apple products, which he said he used at home, should also be used more in government. ..."

I'm struggling to see how Swiss can spin this as anything other than one more indictment of Labour's cluelessness and addiction to spin. Making up entire IT projects for no purpose at all other than to make their policies look cool?
It's no wonder the country's ended up in its present state.

sigh what a tit.
using apple products more!? urgh...
as for opensource, i use a fair bit in the company i work for, works damn well too
been using Firebird for about 7 years without any problems, but the half the staff nearly rioted when i deployed openoffice heh
either way im sure the gov will find other ways to waste millions..
i know we've had servers off companys who were throwing them out after 2 years, they've been top notch for us too
worst one i heard was a big company my bro works for, they decided that Dell would now be the sole supplier for all of their workstations etc
when asked about all the new PC's and current PC's they had, they were told to just get rid... urgh

Maggie tried to sue them after they screwed up with the financial audits of DeLorean in the early 80s. Since then they have been red to the core, they supported Bliar through the late 90s and got their rewards, consequently you'll see a lot of ex-Andersen folk in these sort of public-sector positions with no accountability.
A surprisingly non-liberal (albeit 9 years old) view from Auntie:

The guy in question is former employee of Accenture (formally Andersen Consulting) which had nothing to do with De Lorean. Andersen, formally Arthur Andersen, however, were DeLorean's accountants. Accenture is completely separate legal entity to Andersen which went **** up with the WorldCom and more notably Enron fiasco in 2002 which was when I left.
Accenture, however, have been in Labour's pockets long before they were elected in 1997 and have been there ever since so there are no suprises there really.
