CRT is still superior with SD signals, I just threw out a fantastic Philips CRT that i'd had for about 10 years as there wasn't anywhere for it. The quality of it on SD sources blew the trunks clean off my plasma and LCD.

In my opinion HD wasn't an evolution of TV but infact a solution to the problem of large flatscreens looking crap on SD. Watch a good quality CRT and you'll be struck by how close it looks to HD with a good source.

I have to agree with the above. My Loewe 32" offered brilliant picture quality with SD, far better than any LCD TV Ive seen and a little better than my Panasonic Plasma which in my opinion is the only set that gets close with SD. With full blown HD though I have to say that my plasma has the edge.

I think Plasma has the edge because of the very fast refresh rate and the more natural colours.

And the salesman gets more commission, and they look brighter and punchier in the store 'cos they have all the 'enhancement' settings on max which impresses the average Joe.

Well you have got a few answers, they never seem quite as natural as a plasma to me.

Just spent a week with a Sony 32" LCD in a log cabin in the lake District, and it was crap ! Colour was all over the place, even when I adjusted it to what seemed correct, moving a few feet either way threw it out. Christine Bleakley actually looked paler than Adrian Chiles.
