LED or Plasma?

LED or Plasma?
hi
my parents got us a new tv at christmas from costco, a 40" full hd plasma, however the tv's speakers have lost the will to live and we can take it back for a full refund within 90 days.
however the one we got originally has all sold out, but they have an led 42" toshiba for £30 more so dad says he will put the extra to it for us as im still not working, but there is another 42" plasma for slightly less than we paid, cant remember the make though.
is the led as good as plasma? the model of the tv is 42SL738
thanks in advance

Buy the one u like the look of.
PS LCD/LED in all forms looks **** and artificial in my opinion. I'm actually sitting here watching my 32" LCD and seriously missing my plasma screen that has been sitting all alone in my new apartment waiting for me to move in and enjoy it once more.

i purchased my first flat screen recently.......well just a year ago. could never ever make up my mind between lcd, plasma or led. eventually went for an lg led 42'' and i have to say a year later i still think it is a pucka tv. more recently 3 of my friends who went for plasmas when they first became commercially affordable 3-4 years back are all replacing them now as they let go. Earlier lcd models look laughable 5-6 years on.
tvs are getting thinner but for the tvs in the 699-999 bracket the LG led is crystal sharp and ultra bright with an hd box and still very thin compared to what i have seen out there of late.model LG Le4500.
i am no expert but i think it was the best 900 quid i spent last year

Its a statistical fact that 9 out of 10 chavs love LEDs because its bling init! Real men buy plasmas as they are as uneconomical as V8 engined muscle cars and they don't suffer from screen judder which every LCD/LED I have seen has to some degree.
Don't be gay, buy a Plasma!

If you are happy juddering away thats your choice, I enjoy watching films and tend to feel that plasma offers a more realistic offering of how a film was intended to be viewed.
I suppose if you are the sort of person that thinks Avatar and the likes are great pieces of cinematography an LED would look more sparkly and 3D-like.
What would I know though?

I had a iiyama CRT computer screen more years ago than I would care to remember.....what a visual treat
I bought a plasma because it has real life stunning images (check out the series on the Universe by Prof *** in HD)
The real pain is the Plasma needs the curtains closed if the sun is shining and it's not as good as the LED's I've seen running Wii / x-box games
I guess it's down to what you watch and where.

I wish the marketeers wouldn't spout LED everywhere. The bloody picture is still displayed using LCD technology. The backlight technology is LED, as opposed to CCFL. Tellies tend to be a lot thinner with LEDs. One reason being they generate far less heat.
Comparing my 46" Samsung with a mate's new 40?" Sony LCD/LED, I'm amazed at its slimness.

Show me a link that shows any judder on a LCD/LED tv..?
I too watch films and HD sport content on all my TV's..Not into gaming at all so cannot comment on that.
I have always had good quality plasma's mainly Viera's but did venture into Sharp ownership once..,so i think i have a good grounding on what plasma can give and its shortfalls..
I also have a conventinal LCD Viera thats 1080p that offers great picture quality, but because of the way the screen is lit the blacks are a little grey and sometimes the whites can seem washed out..
This is where the LED lighting works better, infinite contrast ratio and superb response time adds to an already good picture. Interpolation is excellent on my screen, and its suffers no tear at all on fast moving stuff.Something that my Viera plasma suffered, fast moving stuff would sometimes go blocky and edges would get the jaggies..
An LED backlit can seem very vivid when out of the box, drop off the backlight setting a few notches and spend 30 mins setting up the screen and your in for a visual treat...
I would urge any potential owner to view as many TVs as they can and see what suits there eye the best..
Oh i like the Simpsons too....

Comparing an older Viera to a brand new LCD LED backlit TV isn't really fair either as year on year screens get vastly better. Try comparing a new Viera to a new LCD LED backlit TV instead.
As said, what would I know.....
....I only sell/watch/setup all the leading the brands of LCD/LED/Plasma on the market and have done since before HD-Ready was even heard of.

I was looking at a 50"-60" gas plasma screen before Christmas (which I didnt actually buy, but Id choose one over virtually all LED LCDs, as you only see an advantage when you spend very top money, as far as I can see); and I was amazed how much thinner, and particularly how much lighter they were, than my 5+ year old 40 Sony LCD!
The Sony was ridiculously expensive, but you certainly got some weight for your outlay - everything is a lot cheaper and lighter now...

So like many consumers,i look at the market WHEN i need a new TV... Currently,as it stands LCD/LED offers superb picture quality at affordable pricing...
BTW...Where do you work,im in the Hi end audio/AV line myself..
This was the problem with my 3yr old Viera(banding),which was the reason i decided to sh!tcan it...
