I bought one of these many years back, it was incredibly expensive at the time, but is a fantastic mower. The cylinder unit lifts out for replacement with a scarifying cartridge. The engine starts on first pull every time, and is very quiet in operation compared with other petrol mowers.

I've got my Dad's old Hayter which is 10 years or more old. Still does the job. I'm guessing the main thing to look for is a good engine. Briggs and Straton were always rated back in the day (don't know about now?) and thee seems to be plenty around in the £100 - £150 area with these motors

Best fun i had using a mower is one of these..
They take a little time to get the hang of it,mainly because of the steering, you use the left lever to turn right, and right lever to turn left had some laughs with that...You can get some serious speed on one of these things, and even pop a few wheelies..

Anything with a Honda engine, chasis can be easily repaired or replaced ith used units etc, but the honda engines are reliable and run forever if maintained properly.

Regardless of what machine you get you need to get the blade sharpened regularly, as that will keep the quality of the cut good.
Look for a machine that is easy to handle, good engine, good range of clip height and from one of the well known brands.

I remember the bargin one from Argos - great little number until treated it to a bottle of STP boost. ROFLMAO !! - Ive never heard a 2 stroke .03 horse power go into turbo mode, pop and then so much smoke. funny as hell and still chuckling as I write this. Shold have seen the wifes face as she heard a screaming engine and masses of smoke.
Im on an electric one no
