R/C Gliders
I've got Radio Controlled everything ... from Tanks, to Yatchs, to Helicopters, Planes, Cars and SpeedBoats.
Quite fancy a relaxing Glider to do some Slope Soaring and suchlike .... anyone here got a ParkZone Radian - 6 Foot Wingspan, looks decent and simple enough for me!

Or is there anything better? Keep it simple .....

Hmmm, How will you transport the soarer plus yourself to the top of the local ridge? If it's up the back slope by car, then OK. Otherwise, you may need a fleet of helpers or a mythical 4x4 Civic Diesel to help.

I had one pete, it ended up in a tree. easy to control, however any amount of wind above calm and it becomes very difficult to control.
its in this tree if you want it

The real skill Pete comes when you can have a full session with it, finding the thermals to keep it off the ground and finally flying it back to yourself so that you can just pick it out of the air as it comes to hand!
All the stars do that.

Get yourself one of these Pete, take off from a garden table if you wanted-no cliffs required and batteries last 20 mins easy if you're not enjoying the full half horsepower lol

I've got the Snow Leopard - with smoke and diesel clattering engine noise - lights to the front and rear - machine gun and firing big gun (BB Pellets).
It's brilliant fun around the garden - chasing the dog

I dabbled in my.teens and can see myself taking it up again during my second childhood, sounds perfect for you Pete!
Control is easiest with a two channel model, stuff anything with ailerons, it makes things far too twitchy. Also make sure you don't use your existing rc transmitter, get a dedicated 35mhz aircraft transmitter, you don't want the local lads shooting you down when they come out to test their new rc car!
As well as that, buying a bungee tow rope is a definite investment, this way you can launch from anywhere rather than having to find the nearest hill. A well timed 'ping' from one of these will put.you up around 250 feet, just the thing for a spot of unhurried thermal hunting
Needless to say, in.this day and age, public liability insurance is a must, although I never bothered back when I was beating up the slopes.
Let us know how you get on,
Astra

I won't be taking Insurance out .... you need to be a member of a club to get that (and really, the people who frequent clubs tend to be ..... how can I say this? **** .. ) - hell to me!
The Glider in question has a motor - so no bungee needed.
It's a 2.4GHz set-up ... with transmitter bound to the model.
It's a 3 Channel - with a 5 Channel transmitter/receiver ... so lights can be added, for example.

If you're going to fly something with a motor, try this!

And I'd advise you to get it because it's relatively cheap and when you lose control and hit somebody/something you might need it !

If you have Insurance then you will be taken to Court ..... if there is no Insurance then the No Win No Fee people aren't interested in the Claim.
