Default Where to ski/snowbard in March

Hi all

Looking to go skiing either 5th or 12th of March for 1 week with a friend. He's a boarder so we'll need some wide slopes.
Other parameters to consider:-

Need high resorts for time of year.
Good nightlife
HB accommodation within resort, pref walking distance to bars etc. Will put up with bus journey to gondola if we have to.
Budget ~£600 + ski pass and kit hire. I usually work on £1000 inc spending money being a good ballpark.

So far we have been to.
Altenmarkt - good slopes but dead resort at night.
Saalbach - best place I've been to. Great allrounder
Mayrhofen - good slopes but crap nightlife. Brochures suggest nighlife is great but there's only a hand full of bars. (I was there last year)

Any ideas?

Zell am See looks good.

I'd not worry about the height, just keep waiting and see where it snows!

Much of Europe has been a bit bare this (calendar) year. I'm not going again until the 26th March, but will wait as long as I can before booking. Some snow is planned this week, I hope it's the start of plenty!

Can't help of the apres ski though....too old for that.

Too old! Hmmm I'm 39 and still loving it.
You're never too old if you're fit enough to ski

St. Anton if you can find a good deal... I was there last week doing it the easy way...

Otherwise Val Thorens for skiing high

Yeah Zell's nice . . . I ve been three times inc. Jan this year.

Got the schmitten @ zell and if the weathers not upto much you have high altitude glacial skiing from neighbouring Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun.

Europa lift pass covers both areas for circa £160 for that time of year iirc

Nightlifes pretty lively in zell - quieter in Kaprun.

We went back this year. Mostly avoided the nightlife though. I guess stuff like this could happen anywhere - saalbach appears the worst for it currently.

Soelden - Amazing nightlife, high altitude, wide pistes continue straight on (or down) from the glacier skiing.

A few of us going there March 12th

Coming down in the blood wagon is much easier than skiing down a blue, I'll grant you that

To the OP- just go high - Val T is high but bare, but lots of others are high with glaciers - Val d'Isere/Tignes, Les arcs, Chamonix, etc etc. Austria is generally a bit lower. If you can wait then do - i spent 20 years skiing with mates and we never booked more than a week ahead. just booked time off work and then worked out where the snow was and went there. gets trickier with kids/big parties .

I'm off to La Plagne for a week at Easter so I'm looking for late snow too

Banff is pretty much guaranteed snow through April I think. Cheap flights there at the minute for some reason (my brother just booked).

Val thorens is just amazing,

Ive got a week in bansko booked for 3rd march, my brothers mates hotel is walking distance to gondola lift and in the hotel, pizza chips & beer works out £5. He's out there now though and only just had good snow today and coming back Sunday lol.

Hopefully be better for my week.

Still not booked anywhere.

Booked the week off work, just want it to snow. I'd consider crossing the atlantic, but would rather not.

Strange year snow wise, many resorts in France have hardly seen snow for 40 days.

Val Thorens is hard to beat unless you want the resort to look nice. Guaranteed snow, massive piste area, massive off piste, good apres, not stupidly expensive (like the other two valleys)

I am going to Chamonix on 04/03 with a couple of mates. If the lack of snow keeps up, we might chuck a few quid at it and shift to VT

Seems Austria and Italy are doing best for snow right now.

Another vote for Val Thorens
Been to quite a few places and this was by far the best all rounder! It dumped down with snow the first two days to, so the off piste was amazing

5 of us went a few years back (all boarders) and had a great time, check out the "Cime de Caron" run, its a monster

Pics: http://www.valtho.nl/files/foto_en.htm

Take a look at the piste map

Wish i had the money to visit again
