1st March - picking up a new scoob? Excited?!?!
#1
Had a quick trip down to my dealers ( Carstins in Balsall Common, nr Coventry )today who informs me that my car will be ready to pick up on the 1st March. Very pleasant surprise!!
Was lovely to see / hear the cars being unloaded from the transporter. It seems like a long time since I last saw one up close, even though it was only early December. ( Will be first Impreza )
Anyone else buying from Carstin's / getting excited about March? I know, I must be sad to get this excited about a car ( not! :-)
Dave.

Guess I am just as sad!
Went to my dealer last week to tie up some lose ends and actually saw my car which had just been delivered
Can't take it away until 1st! Sick or What

September Ha! I've been waiting since July!
Before you all call me an idiot, thats fine by me as I couldn't take delivery till now. Do you notice that the days are getting slower as 1st March arrives
Dealer gets mine next week, already booked 1st off work!
Cheers

At least people in the know, know you are running it in . I had mine 3 months after the registration had changed so people didnt know it was new.
The engines seem to be very tight for the first 4000-5000 miles and slowly get better as they loosen up.
Take it easy boys and dont get tempted to blast it .
cheers

I guess I'ii just have to add myself to the list. I had the 'you're car will be here by the weekend' call today, I too have been waiting since september, shame they changed the wheels in the mean time I think I prefer the 99my ones, still never mind, you can't see the wheels while you're driving can you.
Roll on March 1st.

Sorry to hear you all have had to wait so long. Had my MY99 written of on December 17th waited two weeks for insurance to agree value and had new MY00 6 days later.
The first thousand miles were very frustrating as had covered 28,000 in my last car and had loosened up very nicely over the last year.
By the way the car was one day short of being a year old when written off.

Little tip from a 99my owner for you... I WISH that I'd started using Zymol on my car from brand new instead of after a year of Autoglym ownership. Contact Zymol & get that SIDC pack right away!

Does anyone know how much the Zymol starter pack is?
Had completely lost track of time, had expected it might be more April than March so was *very* pleased!
Loved the unexpected sight of a DBM MY00 *burbling* into the dealers from the transporter parked up the road. Any doubts were out the window at that point. Love the wheels myself.
Dealer just trying to book in all the sunroofs / air con / other extras to all the cars now. Gave me the Barrier Deadlock ( which I'm having ) details, will scan it in and put it up soon.
Now just got to figure out how to get to the garage that day to pick it up.... and sort out insurance.
Don't forget mats!

Dave,
Carstins will be my local dealer when my car arrives in a couple of months, I am going the import route from a dealer in Holland.
Like you, I have heard good reports about the barrier deadlock and will have one fitted as soon as possible. Could you let me know if Carstins fit the device themselves and how much they charge.
Thanks in advance.
Neil.

Neil,
The barrier deadlock is around 240 I think, but that was the approximate price as the salesman discounted that for the sale. I got an info sheet from Richard @ Carstin's the other day and will scan it and put it up this weekend. It is Thatcham approved.
Carstin's do fit it themselves - someone came in from another garage and trained there people on how to do it.
Carstin's have been very good to me ( so far! ) and will go there for servicing etc. What is their position regarding servicing your import? I know some places can be hard on this.
Dave.

Dave,
Thanks for the info.
I haven't spoken to them directly about servicing, but as my car will be to full UK spec, dealers are obliged to service them as if they were purchased in this country.
I visited them last year and went for a test drive, and they seemed a decent crowd so I am not expecting any problems.
I will keep a look out for a 'W' reg Turbo flying along the Coventry Road next month.(Watch out for the speed cameras).

Top tip for you scooby newbies :
When filling up turn the petrol nozzle 90 degrees clockwise. I am not sure this problem is on the MY00 but I struggled for ages trying to fill my 98MY when I first had it as the petrol pump kept cutting out. Be careful the petrol doesnt come flying out though .

As for all the 1000 mile advice.....beat this then ..2 days after picking the car up i am off for a nice (gentle) drive from leeds to aviemore via m62 ,m6, glasgow ,ft.william inverness then on the second day straight to leeds. Should be about 1000 with the previous 2 days.
with the variation in roads /terrain the car should be bedded in nicely.

Leeds -> Aviemore? I'm doing that on Friday (NOT running in though!! Way-hay! - mines a 97MY with 32K on it)
...however, it's in for having 2 doors re-sprayed Monday because some chimp from Unicar dented the drivers door while fitting a better alarm for me :-( Imagine how I'll feel if I have to drive to Scotland in a 1.0l bloody courtesy car if they don't finish mine in time!
Cheers,
Stephen
