Denz,

One of my customers took delivery of a 530dse the other week. It is really smooth refined car and little of the noise normally associated with an oil burner.

This car had a sport kit, upgrade alloys and tan leather and looked the pups parts.

Another customer took delivery of a 330dse and is chuffed to bits with it, but he's gutted that the missus gets to drive it more so be warned

As Tony tiger would say, there greeeeat!!!!

laters

I've just changed from a Scoob to a 330d, and am far happier with it that I thought I would be. Do miss the shove in the back on the odd occasion, but the overall ownership experiance is far better, and its no real slower in the real world c200hp c300lb/ft torque 40mpg comfort, luxary and build quality Subaru could only dream about...

Totally different proposition to the scoob, it isn't a phenominal handler, and steering feedback is not the best, but a stunning all round package - very grown up. All depends on your priorities, mine changed, the BMW fitted the bill perfectly.

Drive one. I did, and bought the car I drove just be ready for a shock on the value of your impreza

If you trade it in to a dealer, take off the Morettes, exhaust, ICE and DV - you'll get sweet fa extra for it - it may even devalue it slightly - and sell it on this board. That'll all go in no time.

Denz,

I swapped my STI for a 330D Sport and like Gary, I reckon that it's absolutely brilliant. The build quality is superb, and even better that Mercedes at the moment.

I get loads of torque and fuel economy that you could only dream about in the Scooby. The resale value on the Beemer would be huge compared to a new Scoob too.

Give the diesel a go, and say hello to 40 mpg and above all, they sound fantastic!

I totally agree with Matt.

I also changed my scooby for a 330d and it's absolutely awesome...

Is there anyone on this net that hasnt swapped for a BMW 330d or 530d.

I clearly ran up against one of these ex owners the other day in the slightly more poerful 530d. He clearly wanted to show me the performance of his oil burner and set off billowing black smoke as they do on full throttle at every opportunity.

Trouble is he thought he was really motoring whilst I was drving well within the scoobs limits and not really trying.

Is it really worth the sacrifice just to save a few hundred quid on fuel each year?

Wilf,

Of course the Scoob will be quicker than a 330D! The scoob has more power which helps off the line, but about 80ft lbs less torque once rolling.

The 330 and 530 have exactly the same engine and outputs. This makes the 330 a bit quicker. For a diesel, 0-60 in 7.4 and 141 mph is pretty rapid. It's only 1.5 secs slower to 100 than a new WRX!!

For those of us that do a few miles, the Beemer saves me 50% in fuel cost each year. This means that I save approx £1920 per annum in fuel alone! I'm Happy

Matt

Are the specs the same for the 530d and 330d according to my latest What car (which I do not read regularly) the 530 has about 10bhp more and about the same amount of increased torque.

Scoobies aside I'm quite a fan of both models.

I bought the wife a 530d estate, excellent car, cant complain about it at all.

In fact its kinda making me think of getting rid of the scoob for a new m3 (wanted a new m5 but its far too overpriced!)

Quick someone set up Beemernet

I must admit if I was doing more miles a year then I would look at a 330d .
