Got myself a beautiful picture of a Lancaster Bomber!!
Since I was about 14/15 Many moons ago I have always been facisnated about the Lancaster Bomber, well last week end my sister in law took me to a new R.A.F. shop in Uxbridge, and as it was open day they had a jolly old knees up, Right down to having original air crew from a Lancaster Bomber, My Dear late Uncle Harry use too fly them so when my dad told me I was amazed, of course he never spoke about it but just before he died my other Uncle told him about how mad I was about the Aircraft and he said he would talk too me about it, sadly he passed away before we had that chat, Anyhows the Air crew were only too pleased too sign it for me one of them being an original Dambuster, I was gobsmacked, The Picture now hangs in a frame waiting too be put on the wall, These wern't just brave men, all of them were heroes, But what did make me laugh was when the pilot said too me whats wrong with this Picture, I said It's beautiful, he said they could have shut the emergency hatches before they took the picture, he then pointed to them in the picture, he was quite annoyed to think they had taken the picture with the hatches open, well I cracked up Well I am really chuffed to have this picture, and to get it signed is even a bigger bonus that I couls have asked for!!!!!!!
Cheers

Above my computer desk hangs my father's painting of a Lancaster, given to me in his will. It is R5868, which stood as gate guardian at Scampton for years before moving to the museum at Hendon. In the paintingit carries the markings OL Q for "Q Queenie" of 83 Pathfinder Squadron, my dad's squadron during the war, when he was stationed at Scampton and Wyton.
It is signed by Lucy Bennett, widow of Don Bennett, Pathfinder chief, plus many surviving, (at the time it was painted), members of 83 Pathfinder Squadron.
A treasured possession indeed.
The Lanc in the painting is now in Hendon, carrying the markings for an Australian Squadron, PO S, "S Sugar", to which is transferred when it was replaced at 83 squadron by one with more up to date radar for marking the targets.
My dad tried for years to get the museum to mark one side of it OL Q as it flew a good number of missions with them, but to no avail. They would rather honour an Aussie squadron than a British one, it seems
