Brings back memories, I had a dozen Spridgets in various states of tune over the years, including a full race car.

Nothing nearly as powerful as that one though

Looks like a very interesting box of tricks. Bet he does not get many offers at that sort of price though.

I fancied doing that with a Triumph TR6. I was working on my mate's TR6 and the biggest problem with its performance and handling is the fact it has a outdated (even in the 1970's) heavy truck engine plonked in the front.

Anyhoo, I looked in the engine bay and realised a BMW M54 engine would fit in there beautifully. It wouldn't be too hard a project as unlike a MG, its a body-on-chassis. So its just a case of moving the odd cross member, weld in some new brackets and cut the body to fit around it all: Just like when fitting a v8 engine into a Series Landrover.

Stick some throttle bodies on, and it would sound pretty similar too. More power, more torque, more revs and MUCH lighter. Obviously it''ll be mated to a BMW getrag gearbox (whatever fits) and suitable LSD. Not to forget sorting the suspension to accomodate the lightened front axle, and dumping those Armstrong lever type shock absorbers for piston shocks.

Hmmm, got me thinking now...Lotus Elan with a Spyder chassis/drivetrain conversion or a BMW engined TR6...mmmm. The purists may castrate me though

(BTW I'm a Triumph man; MGs are too pipe and slippers )

Much as I like the idea I suspect it is a bloody evil thing to drive, 320 bhp in a car that small is overkill and goes from fun to daunting, 100 ish bhp in a Midget is plenty to have fun, even a bog stock Frogeye is fun with about 55 bhp.

Bollox to the purists, their ancestors probably complained the first time somebody took the stone head of a hammer and replaced it with an iron one

Like the idea and what fun you could have with it!

not keen on the colour though, would prefer BRG.

I had a 1275 (actually 1380) '72 sprite with a cosworth worked engine, big valve heads, fast road cam, larger SU's, lightened and balanced and a belt drive replacing the timing chain, spax suspension and uprated brakes with 120/130bhp it was a handful Happy days
