Sadly not, even if you had a firearms cert, this is far too small.

AFAIK there are no laws on owning cannons

Back in the 80's they were making minature brass cannons in the dockyard at

portsmouth navy days, and giving them to members of the public

The only restriction will be what you use for propellant....

Gunpowder.... licence required

Blackpowder... not sure, but i would go with the above

That said there are several over the counter compounds that will react with the correct force should you so wish

As a kid, we used to save like mad before bonfire night and spend about £1 each just on bangers, which gave us 240 each.

One of the things we did was bore a 1/2" hole down a length of table leg with a brace and bit, before joining it at right angles with a 1/8" hole.
The fuse part of one of the bangers was screwed tight into the small hole and around 20 bangers were emptied into the larger one, before a piece of card was pushed down and the remainder filled with nuts, bolts, screws etc.

The home made cannon was placed with it's rear against a wall and a terracotta plantpot placed about 6 feet from it's opening, then the fuse was lit

Result: plant pod powder

We learned VERY quickly that you don't do this INSIDE your dad's garage, after two of us suffered shrapnel wounds

See it works, you grew up and had a healthy respect for fireworks

I still recall screwing nuts and bolts together to make bangers

Made one in Design/Technology when I was at school though it wasn't (originally ) designed to work, rather an ornament. Bored to .177 to take airgun pellets, used gunpowder from starting-gun caps, bit of tissue wadding then the pellet, all compressed/rammed in. Used Swan Vesta chips as a fuse, lit and watched it fire Broke a window in another building 30 ft away

Interesting reading....
http://www.thefield.co.uk/features/4..._a_cannon.html
Apparantly under 2" bore and all I'd need was a shotgun certificate.
*investigates*

I've got two Brown Bess flintlock muskets infront of the fireplace. No license needed. (as confirmed by plod: http://www.west-midlands.police.uk/h...g/shotguns.asp )

Just add gunpowder and shot, and therin lies the issue..getting the gun powder.

Oh aye..........we also had ONE brass bedknob that we filled with gunpowder, then screwed a bolt into until it was tight and threw at a brick wall on an industrial estate one night. Hand grenade or what? We could never find another bedknob though.

And in later life, when I learned that had we overtightened the bolt...........well, someone would have lost a hand.

Most of the bangers ended up wasted. Thirty-banger "genie" anyone? Instant night blindness for the next 15 minutes
